So what is the best way to "untwist" my throttle cables. My engine revs at full lock (right) and per the tech vault they may be twisted as I just had the carbs out recently. Do I have to take the tank off? Do I have to disconect the cables at the carbs? Can I do it from the throttle? Thanks

Yea saddly enough I don't think you will be able to switch them without removing the tank. After you remove the tank it should be pretty easy to see what you have to do

So what is it that happens exactly? Do the carbs get rotated accidentaly and then the cables are crossed? Is that it? I am just trynig to picture what would cause the problem.

The cables already cross once. If you removed your carbs (usually to rejet) and didnt pay attention to how you pulled them out you could twist them. This can cause your issue.
The fix is going to require tank removal so you can see which way to spin your carbs so you can untwist them.
Is there a possibility that you were trying to adjust at the throttle and have not done that correctly?

Maybe, I no comprehende, but if you didn't remove the cables, how could they be twisted, maybe you should be checking the adjustments at the throttle grip? too tight on one or both will cause grief, such as the carb return spring will be unable to overcome the tension. The throttle should be snapping back on its own from W.O.T. position. A little loose is where I found them to work

No, I had not been doing any adjusting of the cables. The only thing I have done since last season is to rejet the carbs. Now this problem shows up. Since then I have tried fixing this problem by adjusting the cables at the grip but to no avail. So, do I have to pull the carbs back out (PITA) or can I remove the cables from the carbs and uncross them that way?

Its a bit of a pain but you can switch the cables with out removing the cables. provided you hooked them up backward.

I never removed the cables to hook them up backwards. I think I might have spun the carbs 360 degrees? I am not sure. Will have to look at it.

OK, maybe you did spin the carbs, removing the cables and re attaching them while mounted to the motor is a PITA

huumm?????????????????? Thats odd but I guess its possible. you can still just un hook them from the carbs and untwist them. it aint gonna be easy.

Why can't you take the tank off, un attach the cables at the grip work the kink (twist) out and re attach at the grip?

Well that's what I am hoping but I haven't looked at it to see the exact problem yet. If the cables are crossed that won't work.

I am really confused by all of this...but at the grip the cable ends are different. One has a retaining type bolt that screws into the housing, the other has a screw retainer. The top cable is the "pull" cable so when the grip is twisted counter clock wise the cable is wrapped around the throttle tube, there by pulling the carb linkage, opening the carb slide. The other cable is the "plush" cable to push the carb linkage back....the only place I can think of is you have the two cables attached to the wrong points at the carb linkage, which you could do...so the push cable is pulling on the linkage

The cables are not attached to the wrong points. The cables were never removed from the carbs. That I can tell you positively. So, the only thing that I can think of is the carbs got "spun" around at some point while I was fiddling around with the jets. If that is the problem I was wondering if I could disconnect the cables, unwind them and then hook them back up without having to pull the carbs back off un "unspin" the whole assembly.

#1 , I can't figure out what goin' on there either, unless the carbs were removed and spun 360, the only other thing is, like you suggest, the cables are switched at the carbs. I meant that if twisted 360, remove the twist by removing the cables at the grips, spin 360 and re attach, and yes, you only have one option for how they fit the twist throttle.

Well I am really curious what happened too. I am going to try to make it my priority when I get home to pull the tank and see what's going on becuase it's really not safe to ride the way it is right now. The revs shoot thru the roof when you turn sharp right.

Wait a minute...you can ride the bike???...so does turning the throttle counter clock wise make the bike rev up???...
you say that "the rev shoot thru the roof when you turn sharp right".....
so assuming everything is correct, bike revs up by turning the throttle counter clock wise..I would say you just have a cable binding, there by pulling the cable and allowing the bike to rev....
when the bike is sitting on the side stand turn the handle bars each way..do the cables bind in either direction?? There should be some slack in the cables at full lock of the bars in either direction.
Take the tank off and trace the cables from the handle bar to the carbs. They should be free...The cables will follow under the back bone of the bike...do the cables come under the tank on the right side or left side (as you sit on the bike)?...is this a speed master or america (speed master cables are shorter). The cables should be lose under the back bone...
There are some linkage holders that the chrome cable guide connect to near the carbs. Check to make sure they are in the guides...

If you have pods then id say pull the carbs. If you still have the air box then id pull the tank (for visibility to the cables) and detatch at the throttle then untwist and reattatch. Either way you have to put some effort into fixing it... Its the price we all pay when we make a simple mistake

You're correct, but he may have just misaligned the cables when he pulled the carbs out. One might just be kinked enough to bind. Seen it happen.

DING DING DING!!!! You got it! The cables are routed down the left and one of the throttle cables was running outside of the coil, pulled pretty snug. The other was running under the backbone as it should. I repositioned the stray cable, put it back together and all better. Thanks for eveyones help. I thiught it was going to be a royal pain but ended up pretty simple. Ready to ride to work tomorrow!
