I remember the first bar that had all you can eat chicken wings here in town, about 20 years ago. They were pretty inexpensive and were a big hit. They had all you can eat, buffet style set-up, with 6 different flavors. One of my favorites is a flavor called Buffalo, the sauce that is used in these is Frank's RedHot Sauce. To me the wings have more flavor than are hot which I like.
Compared to other wings I've tried like automic, suicide or XXXHot.
The Buffalo style sauce originated at a bar in, guess.......
BUFFALO, NY! Called The Anchor Inn.
My mom told me that in the old day they either used the wings for soup or threw them out.
Now these little suckers are a gold mine for many places. Hell now we have wing cookoffs and many bars that sell wings. Their a big hit. Some of my favorite wings are sold at the little dives on the corner. I was in Maryland recently to visit my daughter and we went to a pizza parlor that sold wings. Here most places have at least 6 flavors. Some places have 12 or many more. All they had was barbecue and looked at me like I was an alien when I asked (after I ordered my meal)if anyone in town sells wings that are Buffalo style, butter and garlic, etc......
A co-worker told me when he moved here 8 years ago from Buffalo, that he ordered chicken tenders and when he got them they were plain. He asked them, "Where is the sauce." He said in Buffalo they have sauce on them. They got him a bottle of Frank's. Now, of course, they sell Buffalo style tenders, too.
My question is this. Where is your favorite wing place and what is your favorite flavor?
Are wings popular overseas?

Rick

On Cape Cod at the Orleans rotary (roundabout, trafic circle) there used to be a place called the Blue Parrot...they had the best wings I have ever had...Hands down! I love wings and have tried every where i go to find a replacement...to no avail! Hot spicy food is a passion of mine and I have at least 24 different hot sauces to choose from at any time in my fridge door...but for every day decent wings...Hooters...not stellar, or life altering..but good, real good,...and the view aint bed either

I like my wings with HOOTERS or .....at Hooters. The wings are average but the scenery is what sells the wings.

I'm from new york and have eaten at the anchor bar. Dem's some top notch wings. All the other wings places like Wings n' More, Wings n' Things, BW3's, they all pale in comparison to the original Buffalo wings. The only thing i like about those places is the variety of flavors. Also, as a replacement, i do like hooters. I like my wings crunchy, not slimy and swimming in sauce. And you have to eat blue cheese with them (and your celery). I'm in tex-asss now and everyone eats them with Ranch. WTF?! BLASHPEMY!
And then there is this thai restaurant that has some wings that are sweet and spicy with a thick brown sauce and kinda garlicky. Those are the bomb.

I am with Splodge on this one. Chicken wings are like "spare" ribs and need to be thrown out. I buy those wierd chickens and turkeys that have only breasts.

Good one Rick.

We have a place called Rooster's up in Margate, Fl.
Excellent wings (with hot sauce of course).

My wife likes hers mild and drained. Friends say it's probably how she likes her men.

I am getting new friends......

My brother took me to a reastaurant in San Francisco for lunch and I found an item on the menu I'd never heard of.. "what are buffalo wings?" asked I... "oh you won't like them.. too spicy" says he... I only ordered TWO lots of them, thought that was very self controlled of me

Haven't found them since in Australia... this may be god's own country but we're really missing out on a few things.

*sigh* (oh, and sorry Adey )

Twenty or more years ago, chicken wings started to become popular here. Two bars in town, "The Elbow Room" and "The Four Kegs" had the best by far . They weren't called Buffalo wings, but did use the Durkee-Franks Red Hot sauce-in butter formula. .
Wings, to me, will always be a bar food made to be eaten in large quantities while drinking appropriate amounts of beer.

The scenery at Hooters is great but the wings stink.

I like my wings dry with a bit of a crust to them and not slimey. I found the best way to get them that way is to BBQ them. I'll eat 'em just about anyway you serve them, but my 3 favorites are Garlic and Lemon Pepper with no sauce on them or on the side, Teryiaki with Ranch dressing on the side, and Hot wings with blue cheese.

Used to be you could buy them at the grocery store in big packs for 19 or 29 cents a pound, but since they've become popular, now it's $1.29-1.49 a pound.

My deceased mother-in-law(god rest her soul) used to grow award winning chickens for Perdue, and luuuuuuved to eat chicken feet. Can't see it myself.

Yup they do stink at Hooters. Most of the chow at Hooters is average at best. But then again without their namesake drawing card no one would eat there at all.

Oh great horny toads!!! With all these helpful culinary tips, I'm pleasantly surprised and actually kind'a impressed about this refreshing change of attitude that you guys are exhibiting here!

With the subject heading being "Chicken Wings", I thought SOMEBODY ELSE had started a WHOLE NEW THREAD here and it was about the FRENCH AIRFORCE or somethin'!!!

Cheers,

Rob, are you familure with a outfit called 'Mo Hotter, Mo Better' out of socal? If not get ahold of them and order a catalogue of their hot sauces. If nothing else, great crapper reading. There is also a gang called Peppers, that put out a catalogue out of Dewey Beach, Del. I got out of the really hot sauces, but used to love them. TR

BTW, for those of us that like it mild, KFC honey BBQ wings are not bad at all. I prefer the wings to breaded. TR

I don't think I have ever been anywhere except western PA that when you order chicken wings, you get the whole wing. Everywhere else that I have ever ordered wings you get pieces so if you order a dozen wings you get 12 pieces for about the same price that you would get 12 full wings for around here. I agree with some of the others, I like my wings well done, not slimey and with lots of hot sauce, preferably Frank's Hot sauce with a little butter mixed in mmmmmmmmmmmmm GOOD STUFF!!!! Is there anywhere else out there that when you order wings you get the whole wing?
If you want some good wings come to western PA and I can hook you up with some good wings. Oh and HOOTERS wings do suck but it is hard to beat the scenery, I think it takes your mind off of the crap that you are eating. Ron

Personally I love the Wings at Hooters Thats the only reason I go there, because their wings are just so darn good....mmmm I would go to Hooters for their wings even if some 102 year old granny served them, and whats all this about scenery??? It's the wings thats why I go....honest! (thats my story and I'm stickin to it!)

When we were in grade school there was a little cheese factory right next door with a pen of black and tan hound dogs that went ballistic whenever you walked by. Anyhow they would give away little sacks of fresh cheese curd for the asking. Somewhere along the way (whey), it was discovered that people would pay serious money for fresh curd. Now curd costs as much or more as aged cheddar. Life isn't fair. I blame the same people that pay exhorbitant prices for simple motorcycles. Gotta blame somebody, it's snowing again .
