I've been using Ians 23,000 miles as a reference point for chain replacement. If he got that much with no maintenance and Bill out of Ottawa got 50,000 kilometers (31,000 miles) with a scott oiler (correct me if I'm wrong Bill), I figure I should get somewhere inbetween.
I'm currently at 28,000 kms with no visible wear on sprockets and chain. I have next to no chain stretch and each link is free to move with all X rings still intact (checked them yesterday when I shimmed my cush drive).
Call it an experiment.... If I can get close to Bill's chain life, then the maintenance might be worth it but if I only get what Ian got (which is also excellent), then if I don't get a belt drive, I'll forget the maintenance and just drive the bike.
I guess Joe's original request for clip location has morphed into a full blown chain maintenance post..... Sorry bout that Joe
