planking Before too many end up as veggies or plant food, there needs to be a serious campaign to stop this. Maybe some short telly ads saying "plankers are wankers"?

I'd never heard of this so I looked it up on youtube. The practice of planking seems innocent enough, but of course there are those that will take it to extremes as you so rightly pointed out, Ed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrIIIWrF5UE&feature=pyv&ad=9627158513&kw=planking

Nature's natural selection process? Weeding out the stupid, let's hope they don't take an innocent person with them. I've seen some dumb stuff but this is one of the dumbest. These kids obviously have too much time on their hands. Get a job or volunteer to do something productive with their time.

Read about a 20 something planking on a hotel balcony earlier this week. I think he was on the 3rd floor - when he fell. He's dead now.

Well Steve, I guess that's kinda like what Kathy was sayin' above, huh?!
Yep, maybe this guy here might've been right after all with that theory o' his when he wrote...

..."When the HMS Beagle pulled into the Galápagos Islands, I was able to disembark and observe the local flora and fauna. Amongst the many species of fauna I found were the carcasses of one particular species of Iguana lizards located at the base of a cliff. It seems this particular species of Iguanas had been prone to disregard the forces of gravity, and thus try as I might, I could not find any living examples of this species of Iguana left roaming these islands. And thus, I could only conclude that due to their apparent lack of being able to comprehend these forces, this particular species of Iguana were now extinct."
(...okay, naaah I admit it...Chuck up there didn't really write that...I made that all up...but, he COULD HAVE maybe, huh?!)

That's pretty good though.

The Original Plankster

Good one, Steve!!!
I never thought of Rollie Free as bein' a "Plankster", but I guess anybody who'd purposely wear just his swimming trunks and just so he could pass 150mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats on his Vincent, might be as foolhardy as some of these kids today, huh?!
(...I know ya wouldn't catch me doin' that...and besides, I'll bet the officials at Bonneville today wouldn't allow anybody to do that anymore anyway!)

The solution is not less planking, but MORE. Problem takes care of itself.

awwwwwwwww, cmoooon You folks have no sense of adventure, weren't you ever a yute On midwinter, icy sidestreets as an impressionable college yute, we'd return the 10 blocks from the local establishments to the dorms by sidling up behind cars at stop signs, duck down, latch onto the rear bumper and "skeetch" our way back "I was older then I'm much............" jh

Fer sure John. Planking... some take it to the extreme, most do it for the 'shock' value. Like streakin' back in my day. Heck I remember my older brother carrying on back in the late '50s with other guys doing 'extreme' stuff, like barreling down the road side by side, taking up both lanes at 100+ mph and climbing through the windows from one car to the other. It ain't just today's yute doing crazy stuff!!

at some point, every generation, since Hector was a pup, realizes they were not the first to do Phil-in-the-Blank "something". Nearing 40, I'm starting to understand things like this

I blame the phone company. Kids were smarter when they had phone booths to cram themselves into.

I have to side with Keith here guys. Come on you guys never took stupid risks when you were "yutes"? What do you expect them to do? We cram them into helmets and elbow pads to ride a plastic tricycle around in the grassy back yard when they are tikes, and we have a rail around every drop more than 3 feet.
I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.
