When you weld the lower grades of stainless you get a rainbow of temper colors adjacent to the weld, that is called carbide precipitation and is actually carbon migrating to the surface, the yellow hue that you see has to do with the nickel content (ratio of nickel to chromium) of the alloy. The best alloy for non discoloration and resistance to oxidation and corrosion is 316 ELC (extra low carbon). For the prices that are charged for Sceptres you would think they would spend the dime and use the better grades. They are probably 303 or 304 from what your reporting.
