Pendant that I am, I can't shy away from pointing out the logical flaw in these two statements. A declarative sentence is a syntactic phenomenon, not a semantic one. Ergo, if we accept as true that the thread contains declaratives (and is therefore, by definition, a syntactic topic), then this whole thread cannot be about semantics. Certainly some of this thread is about semantics, but not all.
