It is traditional, I don’t think England and France have ever particularly got on with each other. Their culture is somewhat different to ours and countries a bit too close for comfort, like annoying neighbours to each other I suppose. I don’t particularly dislike the French nor would I any race, although the French exchange student from hell I had staying when I was a kid didn’t help Anglo-French relations much. I take every person as I find them, not on where they come from. The jibes we make are mostly good natured but with deliberate intent to offend a little, it’s just the done thing, like the English bashing the Welsh and the Scottish bashing the English and the Welsh bashing the English and the English bashing the Scottish, Americans bashing Canadians and visa versa and on it goes...not very PC I suppose but there again is PC causing more problems than it’s solving?
