Hey Bengt!! Can you highlight some of the things you like about your new Davida... what sets it apart from other helmets you've owned?

Well Keith, for starters I want an open helmet. Feel kind of claustrophobic (sp) inside a full face. So I started to look and finally I found this one. It's extremely comfortable with its padding and full leather interior. Since it comes in no less than six sizes it wasn't hard to find the right one. It really hugs your head (took some effort the first times to put it on) and it's very, very quiet. Just the wind noise. Funny thing, when you put it on you raise your voice talking to people, just like with headphones you know. It's fiberglass and meets the latest European Safety Standard ECE R22-05 as well as being ACU approved for racing in the UK. Just love it...

Most have only seen Davida helmets on the net, they are a work of art to see in person. The quality is old school and top drawer.
I would love to own one, but unfortunately my head is too big. Same goes for BillVegas' Nolan open face, just too tight in the jaws.

Keith,
I have a Davida, or is it Daveeda(?) like Bengt pictured. The quality is very good, snug fitting/quiet.
I'll have it along in Nelson, where all those Triumph misfits hold a summer ralley.
BTW: Due to abnormally large noggin' dimensions, mine is a XXL/64 cm, it's the biggest one they make. I normally wear a 7 3/4-7 7/8 hat. Since there are no local vendors, I ordered mine from a company in Floridaaaa.

Mine is actually a Fulmar, not a Nolan. Not that it matters if it doesn't fit your head

I miss spoke,I knew it was a Fulmer, as I've tried that open face on in vain at my dealer more time than I can remember. It is a very well appointed helmet.

Scorpion EXO 100 also. Silver on black. Visor is great. Wear this one most of the time.
For long trips, I wear a modular with an internal visor. Can't remember the make though.

I've been wanting this for quite a while so... this being my birthday I finally ordered one. It's a bit spendy but reviews have nothing but praise for it and heck, I deserve a good helmet. I'll let cha know all about it as soon as it arrives. The NEXX X60 Vintage.

The NEXX X60 Vintage.
The 'thing' arrived today. Had it back in the box ready for return within 10 minutes. I never saw a helmet that looked dorkier than that one... looks like it's out of a b-grade 'Invasion Of The Space Bugs' movie.

Holy farg....! Yesterday I tried out a full-face/modular. Claustrophobia set in INSTANTLY upon dawning said helmet!! Logic SCREAMED full-face... psychological reactions dictated otherwise! In a span of maybe 20 seconds it was all I could do to get the helmet off fast enough! I felt I couldn't hear... or see... or be a part of my surroundings! Hey, I know full-face/modular are a VERY sensible choice in helmets... but it seems I suffer from claustrophobia and full-facers put me in a state of panic.
Calling Alan Griffin (Alscot) our resident shrink... ya gotta help me out here!!
Hey, better late than never, eh Keith? My advice to you is not fall off. There will be no charge for that. I personally adopt the position that I am immortal. So far I have been proved absolutely correct. Using this position, I have recently bought a new hat (open face natch-only the aesthetically challenged would deprive the world of the opportunity to admire their face they ride by upon the worlds finest motorcycle ). I therefore went for comfort and bought a hat which sits low on the head and which does not strangle me at speed. when I got it home I looked inside and saw lots of big labels pointing out variously that it was 'novelty' helmet, that it should not be used whilst operating machinery of any sort etc.... then I saw the name - it's called a 'Biltwell' Someone's got a sense of humour in that factory.
Al ps It's very comfortable
I took the Road Less Travelled.
Now where the ****** am I?

I received the Shoei Qwest thursday and wsent for a ride...ya know, i didnt even have o go for a ride, just putting the helmet on is a dream, fits like a glove! Riding is even sweeter. The shield has 7 poitive stops so you set it just about anywhere and get the right amount fo air flow...absolutley love it, and gald i didnt spend another $150 on a RF-1100, instead spend an extra $80 on a silver shield that goes well with the antracite.
Received the Nexx X60 Vintage Friday... I love the look but the size Large is too small and the interior is not nearly as nice as the shoei...debating on weather to exchange for an XL or just return and revisit the 1/2 or 3/4 helmet idea later...

Sounds like a good option to try when I update my old Shoei full-face.

Open face 3/4 helmet? I tried on the Fulmer with the union jack and chequer decals, like BillyVegas' so many times the Triumph dealer was going to make me buy it. Man I wanted one bad, but all the sizes were just too tight in my jaw. So I checked out the Bell 3/4 helmets, nice, but I hate the chrome trim.
I finally found a nice 3/4 at the Motorcycle Superstore for $90. Yes, it's made in China. I rolled the dice, came today and I'm happy. It's a Rockhard American classic 3/4. I know sounds a little porno-ish.

Thanks, I got flat black so it is pretty much a blank canvas. Let the masking begin.

I just ordered the AFX FX-42A Pilot helmet with the silver mirror visor: Kind of gamble since nobody sells these in Europe (not that I know of anyway) but it's ok looking helmet for a reasonable price. Hope it's one of good quality too!? The other one I'm waiting for is the Craft RX-6 Evolution:

Sort of my thought too. The pilot helmet's visor even has the oxygen mask center curve. I like it.

I had a hard time finding a helmet that fit my head shape (roundish rather than ovalish). Finally found one when was in the UK a couple of years ago. Schuberth C3. Very light, very quiet (especially for a flip front), and very well ventilated. Also very expensive. Ended up ordering one from Germany (Schuberth was not selling in the US at that point). They are now sold in the US but the US Schuberth will not service an European helmet so when the chin curtain holders broke had to send to the dealer in Germany to get fixed. Was not a good experience but has held up since quite nicely. Worst part of the whole thing is that it is grossly expensive, even for a very good helmet. But am old and brittle and don't bounce as well as I used to so just gritted my teeth and bought it. If I hadn't would have probably wasted the money on cigars and scotch.

I use two Nolans. 1. is the N42 outlaw on the 04 speedy with the dark green shield which works very good. 2. is the N43 trilogy ( dumped the chin bar though) which I use on the 91 bmw k75rt it has good air flow. I like the nolans because of the micro latch. D rings drive me crazy. I have a HJC CL-15 full face which I rarely use because I can't hear the scepter pipes well, plus it only has 4 detents for the face shield which isn't enough flexiblilty for air. I'll wear it if its freezing cold.

I still like my HJC CL-MAX but I've been noticing a lot of wind noise lately. I don't have much choice unless I want to give up my modular (I don't). Of course, I didn't use my earbuds (or earplugs) once during my trip to BC.
