You all might want to Google a new chrome process or paint or whatever they are calling it. Magic Chrome. It is suppose to allow anything to be chromed. You prep a part with their primer , then paint it on with a spray gun. Then clear it. A pints worth was listed at $175. I thought it sounded like it might be a cheap way of doing several pieces. I saw something on classic cars in jay leno's garage that was something similar but I'm not sure if it is the same thing.
This is the process i was speaking of, when this fellow thought i was being obnoxious, I have chromed about everything in my life of hotrods and kustom show kar winners, I saw this first on Edelbrock engine intakes, its beautiful stuff and it endures heat very well. its cheaper than[and what isn't cheaper] than real chrome anymore. Polishing the lower as someone mentioned here, will be a big disappointment in a couple of riding seasons. This chrome coating is/ or sounds like the best investment unless you feel like taking the front all apart again. We used to polish aluminum firewalls[t-buckets etc] and it was a bad deal.jmo--hth someone.
i never said anything about you being obnoxious. i had a question about a process i had already had done (hence the shoulda coulda), not what i SHOULD have done...well that and telling me it was plastic, when anyone can tell it is plastic is a little obnoxious sorry if you took my reply the wrong way. in any case the triple plate process that http://www.mmmetalizing.com/ did is great, hard as a rock. the back of the side panel looks like crap; but that is a byproduct of the process and i have been told by M and M that if will not peel or bubble on the front.
