well, my friends, the date is finally upon me...on Wednesday, I must make my appearence before the powers-that-be to answer for my "crimes"...some of you may remember that some months ago I alluded to an incident in which liquor was provided to some underage teenagers by their own parents, and these same parents (and I use the term very loosely) then proceeded to the bar to do their own partying whilst their kids drank and smoked unsupervised at home...my teenager, who had walked away from similar siuations in the past, gave in to peer pressure this time and indulged himself in the available substances. My reaction was, well, let me say, I went nuts on these people. Nobody, and I mean nobody, has the right to give my kid booze or drugs. So I now must pay the piper, as it were. However, on the bright side, the local constabulary (RCMP) I believe are sympathetic to my feelings in this matter, while being in disagreement with the extent of my wrath. It appears that I will not go to jail, and will only answer to 1 of the 4 charges brought forth. I have been advised by my lawyer that I should expect a conditional discharge with a short period of probation, and to pay an amount of restitution for the damage I caused. Nonetheless, this has been heavily on my mind...a Sword of Damacles...and I'm glad it's almost over. I only hope the judge gets laid Tuesday night, and is a good mood. Wish me luck...

Hey David
Good luck mate.
Whilst you can't watch your kids every minute of the day, the 'parents' of the other kids should be horse-whipped.

Hope he's learned his lesson and that your judge is a sympathetic one.

Let us know the outcome. Any Parent would have done the same. My wife a problem with some of the local kids, after I had a quiet word with kids father this problem ceased, police very understanding (family VERY well known to them), and no charges brought!!! So with you all the way on this one.

I can't speak as a father (cause I'm not one) but I am a big brother. When my sis was about 10 she had hurt her knee and this kid chipped a tooth on her crutch on the playground. A couple years later, she's riding her bike home from a friend's and that kid is at another neighbor's and starts chasing her! Mind you, this kid was probly 16 and she's 12. Turns out he's also friends with one of my friend's younger brother, and we both ended up at their house a week later. (I was about 18). I walked up to him, put my hand on the back of his neck and said "it's not nice to chase little girls on their bike now is it?" He just stared straight ahead and swollowed the lump in his throat. No more problems It was and is the only time I've had to stick up for someone like that but I'd do it again if I had to... I can only imagine how I'd feel if it were an adult endangering a child...

Good luck also. let us know what the result is. I think you did the right thing and probably could have caused much more damage than you probably did. Did the other parents get charged with providing that alcohol? Down here that is Contributing to the Delinquency of a minor. Have Becky come up as a supporting witness. TR

Hey OW,

As a parent of two teenagers I can relate. I hope it all goes well. If its a first offence they should go light (I hope).

showdown in a few hours...thanks to all who wished me luck...as for those who did not...how come, eh? over 250 reads and only 10 replies??? guess the attitude of/towards the French is a matter of more concern?

TR, you got it right...indeed I could have done a lot more damage. I think I showed considerable restraint considering how distraught I was. ..and yes, I pushed for the parents to be charged for supplying alcohol to minors, but they weren't. The focus was on me, I guess. Although the gendarmes called me a couple of weeks ago just to drop me a bit of info...they pulled one of these peoples kids over and ended up charging him with underage possession of alcohol...he'd been drinking and had liquor in the car, but didn't blow over .08...nice, eh? out there driving around on the highways and drinking behind the wheel...would really enjoy seeing him wrap his truck around a pole before he kills someone.

anyway, I'll let you all know how things worked out later today...if they don't lock me up, that is!

Best of Luck OW,

I've worked "down the hall" from the courts for a number of years. Take a deep breath, I bet everything turns out.

Good luck with that today Wolf. Hopefully the judge uses some common sense when deciding what to do. Irresponsible parents should be held accountable for every little thing.

Hum alluded to is right. I bet you kicked his arse. I sure hope the Judge administers true justice. Drops the charge against you and sees fit to incarcerate the moron who needed remedial training.

Good luck. I wish you well Old Wolf.

Sorry Old Wolf. I am one who looked and didn't comment. I have been checking in to see how it's all coming out. I wish you the best. If it were me I would have been in a worse fix than you. I don't know much about laws in Canada, but I thinks the cops would have looked the other way here.

Awright O.W. I confess to looking in and not commenting , don't mean I don't care. Best of luck to you. If there was ever a mitigating circumstance, I think that qualifies. Got three kids of my own, so I say you were justified all the way.

Sorry John! You're right! I was one of those guilty of reading of your plight and not responding.

I just figured that the Canadian Courts would have juuuuust a little more SENSE and see that YOUR HEART WAS IN THE RIGHT PLACE, than these idiot judges south of the 49th Parallel WOULD!!!

GOOD LUCK MAN!

Cheers,
Dwight

Best of luck in your endeavor! Being the father of two daughters, I not only support you, but praise you for being a real parent!!! The crime wasn't the retaliation (spelling??), but the idiots who were allowed to place your children in danger. Here in the US, I believe that idiots have far too many rights, I hope Canada has the fortitude to do the right thing. God bless and best of luck.

so, my friends, I am still on the loose... ...the deal had been pretty much worked out in advance between my lawyer and the Crown, including the RCMP officers involved...everybody was very fair, and the judge was the type who sees no need to upset the applecart if everybody's happy. the jerkoff parent is only getting about 1/2 of what he tried to get in restitution...the judge said, he can go for the rest in a civil suit if he wants, but i doubt he will...i gave him $580, the rest isn't big enough to go to court for.soooo, conditional discharge, keep the peace, be of good character, attend anger management (like, maybe HE should attend drug and alcohol counselling??) and 3 months probation...oh and no guns for a year...i guess somebody figured i'd shoot him next time! that part kind of pisses me off cuz i shoot handgun and i'm very close to qualifying for silver marksman...sigh...oh well...and i haven't seen the lawyers final bill yet...BUT! i'm betting i'll still have that grand for brent which includes Big Bore kit...listening brent?

anyway, sorry for the long post...thanks guys, for your replies and support...thanks especially for reassuring me that i have brothers out there who understand these kind of things and will say so...muchas gracias...the Lord willing, i'll have the good fortune to meet up with some of you someday and shake hands with you and share a beer or two...my wife and i are going into the city tonight for a drink and some food...not really a celebration so much as just a much needed break...

catch y'all later...

Glad it's done with. Don't forget to file a complaint against the errent parent for supplying alcohol to a minor, let the hassle go to where it belongs.

O W- Just read this thread for the first time, I swear! Glad of outcome, could have been worse. As a father of three girls 12, 14, and 16, I don't think I would be concerned about any laws or statutes when rectifying or revenging an event that harmed or put them in peril.

David,

Ya SEE!!! I TOLD YA those Canuck judges o' yours are just that little bit brighter than those down here!!!

And hopefully YOU GUYS have taken care of that nasty little thing called Tort Reform(or as I prefer to call it...."Tit For Tat reform"...another thing we Yanks can't seem to get right either), so Mr. Clueless Parent can't get his stupid little hands on your Triumph!

Now, as Kenny here said, I too do not know what you did to warrant this legal action, BUT if it was what I think it was...next time it might be wiser to ONLY unload verbally on people like those clueless parents and NOT physically.

Cheers,
Dwight

Hey friend, glad to see the you're ok with the deal, but that still doesn't make it right. The arse hole parents should have been made to own up to the damage they did, more than you. You know the saying though, what comes around, goes around. With a lax attitude like they have, it is only a matter of time before their kid either gets busted for DWI or kills himself of it. Just hope no inocent people are involved when and if it happens. TR

Hope you and your wife enjoyed that meal a few drinks. Now that this is all behind you you can get back to enjoying life. And bringing up the youngens they way they should be brought up.
