That's what I've been thinking too.

Whilst this news is the best I've had in a while, I can't help but wonder what the spring or Summer Offensive in Afghanistan will now hold for our troops.

Particularly as my 26 yr old son past his final 10 hour of five tests in I.E.D clearance operations yesterday as a Combat Engineer. This testing which has been relentless for the last 6 months now clears my son and his section for deployment in June.

I now have mixed emotions between pride and concern but he's an excellent soldier that like his dad, believes deeply in what The Aus and NATO forces are doing over there.

My very best wishes for your son's eventual safe return to your shores, Stacka. You have much to be proud about there, Sir.

I'm thinking he'll get the really special virgins ... the top shelf .. the ones they keep for mass murderers ... the ninety year old ones in the seventh circle of hell.

Very interesting news, if indeed OBL did direct the attacks of 9/11 (and not just take credit for it!!)then I sincerely hope this news gives some measure of comfort to the families of those lost in that tragedy.

However, as said, will it lead to some form of reprisal? I'm sure I read only last week that some AQ intel said that they already had a dirty bomb ready to respond to exactly this news, hopefully the release of that little intel was just scaremongering to get some extra budget approved and not totally solid...

edit: found the article Telegraph AQ->OBL

Old fashioned death for a new fashioned terrorist: Bullet to the head. gotta love it. No predators strike no bunker buster just an eloquent death. (I was hoping though that those special forces had ripped off his head and ****** down his neck).

Ok, so one man is dead. Big smile, right?

Brings up a question; Who is the real terrorist, one man on the run with small resources or a nation with endless resources when it comes to going around the clobe terrorising another nation after a nation (like Korea, Vietnam, Irak, Afganistan, Libya etc.)? First it was "communism" now "oil" (should read national security but we know better than that).

Terrorist or a do-gooder. Depends on what direction you look at from. I'm not taking sides.

I bet you wouldn't celebrate a mass murderer of Finland's civilians being brought to justice either.

I am elated.

Extremely good news, I saw it yesterday and couldn't believe it at first. Hope he is with Hitler and the pineapple! (South Park reference) I don't like that they already buried him at sea though. First that is a traditional burial and should have disposed of him in a more fitting way like in a dumpster or trash compactor maybe a wood chipper into a dumpster. Should have kept his head and put it on a pike somewhere.I hope he was at least heavily photographed and DNA testing done on video so all doubt can be erased.

I don't know what a "traditional" burial is for a Muslim. And while I have no sympathy for this nut case scumbag, it was smart not to desecrate his body. There is no sense in stirring up the "average" Muslim and creating more converts to his extremely small bunch of fellow extremist/nutcases. Much better to get rid of him with a modicum of respect, with no tomb or site to pilgramage to. Good riddance and hopefully, a very small notation in history books.

Growing up near NYC and living through 9/11 brings back all kinds of feelings today. There is tragedy in the world everyday, but living in the NY area this news brings back a flood of emotions; fear, sadness, anger, hatred and now hopefully closure. Nothing will bring back the innocent people killed that day or the many first responders who gave their lives to help others. My hope is this news brings some form of closure for the many families impacted that dark day in history. We have changed as a country from that day and will never be the same. For many around our Country this will be a day a difficult day.

About time, pack his carcus with lard and feed him to pigs...then announce as we catch the rest of them the same fate awaits....I think General Persing did something like that to stop an uprising in the Indonesia area back around the early 1900's

I killed him along time ago. Some buddies and took the bass boat over there and shot him. Too bad on the way back he fell in the Ocean and sank we couldn't recover the body.

Osama was buried at sea because having a burial site for him isn't in the best interest of world safety. If there was a burial site it'd be a place for his supporters to gather and unite. He was killed a week ago and they had to id his body. The US Navy Seals did the id, by DNA and facial comparison. He's gone and that's the best news we've had in a long time.

I'm not sure about the burial at sea thing when it comes to minimizing the retaliation. I suppose the ones apt to get upset and strike out will do so regardless if he's buried at sea or given someplace like Saudi for some kind official muslim burial.

The whole buried at sea thing just makes room for someone to call BS. Thet can build a shrine to anyone anywhere at anytime regardless of the actual burial location. So I am going to jump out front and just call it .........BS. I hope he is dead. We still aren't bringing the troops home. Of coarse we are in libia which has nothing to do with 911. So the hopes of not being at war are dashed. The economy is still a wreck, and gas is still just shy of 5 bones a gallon.

Yep, good point there, John.

However, I hope you realize that this whole "Traditional Burial" thing is greatly overrated.

Uh huh, 'cause when I GO, just be sure to dig the friggin' hole deep enough to bury me sittin' upright on one of my Triumphs!!!

(...and/or if the "grieving assembled" REALLY feel motivated, bigger YET so that my Spyder and I can rest eternally six feet under together!!!)

Well, it sounds to me as if you've brought up that ol' "Guns or Butter" debate here, Chad...a concept of which Americans can, nor seemingly ever will, come to a mutual agreement about....well, that is maybe until we're a friggin' QUADRILLION BUCKS in the friggin' hole anyway...and heck, MAYBE not even THEN, dude!!!

(...though, I think maybe BA.com "might not" be the best place to discuss this issue right now...ESPECIALLY 'cause I'm havin' such a GREAT friggin' time makin' fun of that newly deceased friggin' MORON Bin Laden right now!!!!!)

Well you know me Dwight. In order to argue one must take up a contrary position. As I said glad the basstard is dead ( if he is).

If ya do get 72 virgins what do you do for the rest of eternity after the first 36 days?

No he's dead. Our government, say what you will (not here, of course), can't afford to go through all this and have the bastard show up alive later on. That would be entirely too embarrassing on a global scale and would seriously screw up certain re-election campaigns. The larger question is whether it happened exactly the way they are saying.
