I like the headlight visors on the red one. They would fit our bikes I reckon.

Should have gotten the thing. I had a new '66 1600 TL (fastback). Worst car I ever owned, worse even than a '54 Hudson. They retarded #3 cylinder ignition to make up for a poor cooling design. This setup a rotary vibration that unscrewed everything on the left side of the engine.

Hey , my daughter and I went a couple of months ago and got one in Ocala , Florida . We drug that thing up on a trailer . We had so much fun together . There was a green lizard in the headlight bucket and we stopped at Cracker Barrel . It was full of leaves . The Thing , not the Cracker Barrel . We are now Thing People .

Always wanted, but never got one of these. Saw one last year - not in great shape (but new orange paint) and they wanted $6K. I still want one, but not that bad!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWLh0UxJDxo&feature=related(...and yeah, I too, in my younger days, kinda entertained the idea of purchasing a VW Thing, as has been mentioned by a few others here)

these were German jeeps in WWII i think, and also amphibious if i am not mistaken. there was a guy in my home town had an orange one, and he also had the little 3 wheel car you opened in the front.

I believe the latter one you're talkin' about is a BMW Isetta, Bill. However, those actually had 4 wheels, with the rear set of 'em tucked in closer to each other than the wider set front wheels.
(...and yep, the VW "Thing" was closely related to the WWII German Army issue "Kubelwagen", however I've heard they shared few if any common parts)

I don't think the kubelwagen was amphibious, but the Schwimmwagen was:

Cool Find there, Mike!
But ya know, when I was much younger, I had a Schwimm 10-speed, and it didn't look ANYTHING like THAT, and it wouldn't float EITHER!
(...I lost more Schwimm 10-speeds that way!!!...ba-dum-CHING!!!!)
