I got home from the northeast last evening. My place was spared any damage, just a power blackout for the weekend.
I purposely took a route that would allow me see the affected area on the mountain plateau above my house. About two miles from us is a half mile wide swath that stripped everything from the earth; houses, tress, vehicles, vegetation...just 10 foot tall stumps and remnants of foundations and ruble. No matter if your place was brick or manufactured housing nothing remains.
It just so very sobering. Like a moonscape with tree stumps and debris. A pile of rubble that used to be a very big church, an auto shop that's only a knee high wall of cinder block...you get the idea. It's very disorienting because all of the familiar landmarks are gone; even though I know the area I couldn't tell where I was.
