Lucas, prince of darkness is back. I've lost the neutral and the oil pressure warning lights. Where should I look for a solution? The other ones; turn signal and high beam work, but not these two. I can't imagine both switches have gone bad at the same time.

i would try plugging in the bulb from your high beam to make sure that it is the switch and not the bulb. also these will not turn on if the egine cut off (the big red one) is off.....i start with simple solutions and hope it is one of those.

If it isn't broke, I haven't messed with it.

Or conversely take a ground wire to each of the two inputs (black/white & black wires) - however both of these lights share common power side connection - the Green/Red wire to pin 8 of the connector - ensure nothing amiss there, broken wire or bad connection through the connector terminals.

Thanks motorat. Unfortunately none of those. Thanks anyway!

Thanks DEcosse. I'll check that. Only thing different from when everything worked is that I've disconnected the sidestand switch, but that shouldn't have anything to do with oil pressure or neutral, I guess.

Reconnect the sidestand switch. See if you get your indicators back. Why did you disconnect it in the first place?

The switch wouldn't let me start the engine even in neutral with the stand down.

I don't blame you for pulling that switch... it's coming for me too, but I don't see how it could be related to the problem you're having.

Me neither Keith. Well, it would be nice to have all idiot lights working, but until I get this sorted out (bet it's one of these Doh!-problems) I can still ride the bike and just remember to watch the oil pressure gauge now and then.

Ahh - there is more to the story!

Then there must have been problem with neutral switch (which is further validated by no light!!!)

Egg comes first in this case

The requirement for starting (and indeed running) is
EITHER
a) Neutral
OR
b)Side-stand up PLUS clutch switch (latter for starting, but not necessary for running)

There is no provision for starting with the side-stand down UNLESS the bike is in neutral.

So would have to say based on both the Neutral Light not working, nor the bike starting with stand down, that those two clues are pretty conclusive that your neutral switch is either bad or disconnected.

The oil signal would appear to be unrelated & very possibly that one is the bulb (although coincidentally could also be bad pressure swicth or broken/disconnected wire).

Could be the neutral switch as you say. Disconnected the connector "next to the oil filter" and grounded the wire to the frame. The green neutral light lit up. Gonna try to change the switch into a new, fresh one. Fingers crossed... Do you think this will fix my problem w the sidestand switch? Further detective work looking for a reason for the oil warning light not working is next.

I don't believe there is any problem with the ss switch - it is normal that it would kill with the sidestand down if there was no neutral signal (because it 'thinks' it is in gear) - once you fix the neutral switch issue, you should be able to put the ss down and bike will remain running.

Sounds good! I just grounded the oil pressure connector to the frame and hey presto, the light lit up red and nice. Seems that one went south at the same time as the neutral. Strange indeed... Thanks for all your help!

Make sure the connectors are not just corroded - especially with your winter environment there, you may just have some corroded terminals - that would at least be a common theme on those two engine connectors that are a little more exposed than those up in the main frame area.

But either way, looks like you are all set to getting it resolved

I've ordered both a neutral and an oil pressure switch. Luckily no big money, so we'll just have to wait and see. Fingers crossed...
