I thought I saw a old school closed can shock listed somewhere made by Progressive that fits our bikes, no? I haven't got time to hunt down a link right now.

any ideas where to start the search? what size do they need to be? 12.5?

Yep Bill. 12.5 is stock length, and if you're riding two-up occasionally, I would stick with that length, too.

And from my various searches over the years, Mark's suggestion on the fully enclosed Progressive 812's are about the closest thing you'll find out there AND that are an improvement over the stock units.

Yeah sure, Hagon does make a retro-styled fully enclosed shock that looks just like what used to come on the old Meriden-built Triumphs, HOWEVER from what I've heard over the years from many guys who have tried those shocks...well...they're crap. They're too softly sprung AND there is little to none rebound dampening in 'em, and so they'll have the rear of your bike wallowing around just a badly as do the original crappy shocks that come stock on our bikes.

(...which is a shame, 'cause I too always liked the looks of the those old Hagon fully enclosed shocks myself, but in black!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)
