I can't imagine that nobody else is having this same problem. It is without question in the speedo head. I'll be driving down my street at about 40 mph and when I look down my needle is pinned. I have a Speedmaster that has been doing this for years and now I have an America that does the same thing. I purchased a speedo on ebay for my Speedmaster and left it on the shelf just in case it really bothers me someday. I'm hesitant to look for another on ebay since 100% percent of the ones I've seen do the same thing. Thoughts?

You're not alone, Paul... mine did the same thing. I got rid of it and mounted a nice little one in the console.

I think its one of the idiosyncracies of our bikes. The speedometer on my bike is about 10 mph off. Could of had it replaced during warranty, but didn't. I just follow the flow of traffic to keep the DuWright boys of me. A few years back, there was a thread about this very subject.
Didn't buy into the hype, you can keep the change.

Yeah, mine's off by about 100 mph. I have seen threads about people replacing them with smaller ones for cosmetic reasons. I own 6 bikes and 3 of them have no speedo at all so you can see where this is going. I would do a different one if the cable and drive unit didn't need to be changed but I suspect that's wishful thinking.

You could dump the cable all together and go with a magnet/sensor unit.

Mine will do the same thing. on the way to work it will be pegged when I'm doin 40 and on the way home it will work fine. Last summer it worked ok 95% of the time. worked ok this year so far. When it does act up I just go by rpm or go with the flow of traffic. Someday a newer shinier speedometer will come along.

Haven't seen this yet and we have 2. Mine reads a little fast but only by a few mile and hour, about 10mph at times depending on my speed.

I just went through that myself. It had been acting up intermittently, then developed a screach that I finally was able to attribute to it and not something else - just before she crapped out altogether. Non-repairable. New head about $300 (BikeBandit).
I got lucky and another member here sent me his stock speedo, so until it happens again, I'm fixed for now.
Lots of nice aftermarket options though. I'd take a big tach on the bar and a smaller speedo in the console - but I'm not one to want to have to engineer it all up. Plug 'N Play for me.

Yeah, I'm a chopper guy - less is definitely more. My console is on the shelf so the little speedo is out.

Mine's the same as yours: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryLH7vzPHnsThe odometer works perfectly though, so it's not the cable. Most of the time I use my phone with a GPS based speedo app.
