Mine will do the same thing. on the way to work it will be pegged when I'm doin 40 and on the way home it will work fine. Last summer it worked ok 95% of the time. worked ok this year so far. When it does act up I just go by rpm or go with the flow of traffic. Someday a newer shinier speedometer will come along.
