hi got an 02 america no spark, tested coils with multimeter, set on 200k ,across - and+ terminals, reading was 00.0 , then on 20k, from + term and output term (spark plug wire) reading 00.0 , but when coil is plugged in at + term ignition on and a quick touch of a grounded wire to the - term it SPARKs the plug??? so which test is showing whether the coils are bad ive put in new pick up coil , tested this 610 ohms , ignitor is procom , had it swapped out onto another bike and it ran fine, any ideas????

The primary leads (+ and -) are typically 1 to 3 ohms resistance, so checking them on the 200k or 20k scale does really nothing. The secondary side should be in the several thousand ohm range. Sometimes the primary windings are tied into the secondary windings usually at the ground inside the coils but not always. Your tests are being performed at the wrong settings and in the wrong locations. Test the primary windings on a 20 ohm setting. Test the secondary output on the 20k ohm setting putting your leads on the output terminal and to the case frame.

If both coils read the same, they are probably ok. I still think your engine problem is linked to your ignition circuit not finding a proper ground through some safety circuit.

My thoughts also - specifically the ground to either pin 9 (through the side-stand switch) or pin 10 (through the neutral switch); or there is issue with the Crank Position Sensor Pulse Generator.

The coils sparking when the negative terminal is grounded/released proves the coils are not an issue.

tested on twenty ohm setting both coils read 0.06 , will test output tomorow, do the coils earth through the fixing bolts? checked neutral switch underneath, the wire was flattened by me jacking the bike up, did a continuity test and checked out ok , also ran an earth to it as well , still no joy, on the ignitor plug tested pin nine , side stand up battery of , tested earth from battery cable to pin nine 0.00 when side stand down, went to open 1. pin ten was o.oo BUT did not go open ,stayed at 0.00 when put in gear do you think the switch could be faulty , there is only one black wire that connects up near the top of air box where does the wire go back to in the harness?
