IF the figures you presented in the link are any indication AND the second quarter was up by 45 per cent, then by the same token the previous year (using the same methodology), the total for '09 would be circa 2.500 units.
Worse than I thought.

What did you expect? I am sitting at an open air cafeteria watching (sort of) Real Madrid-Barcelona (Spanish Cup final) where there is an abundance of napkins.

I read an editorial in a major bike magazine a few years ago, when the original comeback was faltering. The writer said that either Victory or HD should buy the trademark and than own that market. I guess Polaris was just biding their time. It will be interesting to see what they come out with.

About 10,000 bikes in 2006.

Probably about 7,000 in 2010.

Is the number built a sign of success?

Aston Martin must really suck

Victory has no entry level bike. They are all big cruisers. More susceptible to recession. No little kid starter bikes to sell.

Indian really looks pretty. They simply suck to ride. Polaris will have to fix that for sure. And, as above, lower the price.

You can buy two Thunderbirds or two Victorys for the price of an Indian.

You can get two Speedmasters (or Americas or Bonnevilles, or Thruxtons) for the price of most of those Victorys. So, I that would make four Triumphs for the price of an Indian.

I think you're about right. I couldn't get the Polaris annual statements to download, but, the info I could gleen from their corp. web site doesn't break down sales by product line. I think their bike div. is probably like BMW . BMW would probably be better off financially not producing bikes. As Dogg rightfully pointed out snow mobiles and off road vehicles are Polaris's real business.

Yep, Mac! Very true.

Just like large, lumbering, tractor-engined, two-wheeled motorized vehicles are Harley-Davidson's "real business"!!!

(...I mean, just ask ANY "real" H-D rider and he'll tell ya a Sportster or a V-Rod "isn't a real Harley-Davidson"...RIGHT?!)

I think that is a great idea, getting feedback from the people who might be interested in buying one. What better way to build a bike that would sell to them.
