I suspect that front Metzler Lasertech is a much softer compound than the rear Metzler (I can't remember the model of the rear but it wasn't Lasertech like the front). It was always the rear that let go for me in the wet and I imagine that harder compound/worse grip combination is why they changed to the Lasertech in the front for the stock tyres.
