Have to remember that 99 out of 100 Harleys ever made are still on the road today....the other one made it home.

Yep i getcha. Unfortunately, you don't know if I'm serious or not, and vice versa. the words on a page are always literal and emotionless, even if you throw in a few smiley faces. Fact is, hardly any bikes out there perform to their potential out of the box, and with enough cubic dollars great performance is always available. Granted it was a simple thread starter, but somewhere in 12 pages got kinda convoluted. Sometimes I should just shut up and go riding (the speedie of course!)
ride when I can, work when I have to

You'd be surprised by the way.. on one of the HD forums I frequent, the America/Speedmaster is the "other" bike they all want in the garage..

I ride with mostly Harley riders and the newer ones are dependable and even the older ones that are done right are too. Around here most of the HD guys park them and point. I put more miles on mine in a week than they do all year and I don't get to ride as much as I used to. There are even more who dress in all the HD gear but when asked if they ride they don't have a bike.

Nah, that's alright, Andy! Of COURSE this thread got "convoluted"!!! That's 'cause that jerk Dwight's posts at last count are makin' up 22.5% of the total posts in this thing!!!! (...but ya DO have to admit that that jerk Dwight has some rather KEEN friggin' INSIGHTS into this whole issue here!!!...yep, he may not be quite as funny as he THINKS he is, but when it comes to motorcycling, that jerk DOES kinda know his stuff!!!...might be all those 44 years of ridin' these here motorsicles he's got under his belt!!!)

Absolutely untrue. When you get to know someone even on line, you can tell when one is serious or not. The smileys "emoticons" also give insight to the mood. Almost as you are looking at a real face. That is the point. You see John a few posts back ripping on me. There is a whole history on that very joke and its funny to anyone who reads it and knows me, and the Good Friar. As he mentioned even our bikes are targets for being picked on. Ask him about those snappy bags he use to sport around on his bike or Ian about chain lube, Me about helmets, and Hell Dwight about being a grammer school English teacher. My point being truely you gotta lighten up.

At least Chad didn't put a "U" in place of the "A". Your English lessons are working to a certain extent.

Well in all fairness it DID start in the Lounge. For a second there I thought it was going to take a turn for the truly technical so I moved it. Then BOOM. Ah well, that's life in the forums.

Yeah, this is seriously, performance mods stuff alright! (I mean, it's beyond imagination how much this thread will benefit the performance of my dearly beloved TBA!)

Sorry John, I tried to keep it grounded in useful information even when it was in the lounge. Then well you know we had to wipe up some tears.

Yeah Bill, OR in Harley-Davidson's somewhat cryptic and complex little in-house alphabetic system, the "FXRPKLQUWXYZ" model!!!!

I love it when I tell someone its a Triumph. And they ask "Who makes it?"

Go buy a 3-4 year old Victory Vegas 100 CID stock. Then go beat him up every day every way. You can pick them up used for about 7-8 grand and keep your Triumph too.
I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

I've mentioned elsewhere that my BFCG (Best Friend Charlie G.) has a Sportster and now I want to see if I can ride it again, because I don't recall the vibration/noise/etc to be all that bad. I rather enjoyed riding it. Of course, if you've read my other posts here, you'll know I'm a total greenhorn when it comes to riding motorcycles, so maybe I just didn't know any better. It was also some 3 years ago. I do know it's stock except for rear shocks and some aesthetic pieces like a logo'd gas cap, though after hearing the pipes on my BA he has plans to change his pipes... it's just gonna cost him $$$ because his bike is EFI.
Anyway, TrOjAn, even though I'm a noob and think everyone should ride what makes them happy, I'm glad you're staying with the Speedie for a while longer.
A little update... (and y'all thought this thread was dead.)
BFCG got his exhaust done and met me at work for a short ride the other day. On the way he motioned me to pull over and we swapped bikes for a couple miles. His first comment was he felt like he was getting on a beach cruiser (due to how wide the BA bars are compared to his). The first thing I noticed on his was that his seat cushioning was very compressed and not very comfy. He's put a lot of miles on the bike though, so it's to be expected. So we took off and the second thing I noticed was that I had to release the clutch almost all the way before reaching the friction zone. Not necessarily bad, just different. Now to speak of vibration... egads! Let's just say I was glad to get back on my own bike. I will also mention it was sweet to see my BA cruising down the street.
For what it's worth, BFCG was just as happy to get back on his Sporty.
He's happy, I'm happy... and we ride on.

I've ridden a number of FX's & FL's & liked them all, but none more than my SM. Never had much desire to ride an XL. People who know way more about HD's than me all told me to forget about the XL. The old tube frame Buells (Cyclone, Thunderbolt) were fun. The box frame Buells (XB yadda yadda) didn't do it for me at all, though. And these Triumphs respond so well with very minor mods.
