If you guys are rollin 40 in top gear when he nails it and takes off its because he is low geared and probably don't have a very good top end. 40 is the bottom of 4th gear typically, and you really shouldn't lug the bike around like that. He probably has a huge front sprocket.

Having to downshift to use the bikes power peak that just starts to come into it's own around 4000 rpm isn't a bad thing. That's why it has a transmission. Try nailing it in third at 40 mph and hit the limiter before you shift. These are higher revving engines than HDs, use it
