Aside from keroscene, what commercial cleaners are good for easily melting away dirt and chain wax? And are there any household products that will do? I intend to use my new "grunge brush" with it.

I accidentally got a tin of LP1 cleaner when shopping for chain spray. It seems to work well cleaning up the chain and removing chain lub overspray.

Check my post on Mr. Moto Products. The chain lube is also a cleaner.

Or get yourself a ScottOiler and use oil instead of spray lube... keeps the chain a lot cleaner and is nowhere near as sticky so cleans up with a cloth.

I've had mine on a month or so now... washed the bike today and the only time I had to get a solvent out was to take off the remains of the old spray lube on places like the chain guard. Makes it a lot easier to keep the rear rim clean too.

How about Mrs Stern12, she's pretty good with the tools as I have read.

No disrespect meant stern!

Thought the chain wax cleaned and then lubed the chain. Do I really need a different method to 'clean' the chain?
