When cleaning my headers I have been able to get most of the gunk and bugs off, but there are still spots of bugs and other stuff that seems to be burnt on. What are people using to get the headers clean?

Drape water-soaked kitchen paper over the COLD pipes and leave for a couple of hours. The bugs then just wipe off.

Your not supposed to wait till they are burnt just cooked they taste better that way. With a little hot sauce.

If you try the oven cleaner be sure to use cold oven cleaner and DO NOT allow it to contact raw aluminum. Dampened rags on cold pipes work as well. The best thing I've found is S-100 polishing soap, this stuff makes chrome pop like nothing else on the market. It works well on pretty much any metal.
As a side note Speedy's All Metal Polish is the best I've seen to keep aluminum looking good with a minimal amount of effort. It's hard to find though, best bet is truck stops or truck parts stores.

Oven cleaners will rust out your stuff if you don't get it off. I mean the over spray that gets on your bolts and in the little cracks and seams of everything.

I use this Autosol Metal Polish.

https://autosol.com/shop/metal-polish-2/...0&width=700

My headers got some bluing and yellowing as well as bugs, this stuff removed it all. Also removed bugs and grime from fork tubes. Plus it puts a long lasting shine on all your chrome.

you only use it sparingly , it goes a long way.

Thanks for the ideas. I try to keep the bike clean, but I have had a heck of a time getting the headers clean.

There's this stuff called Simple Green that Dave/Roadworthy turned me on to. Cleans like a champ but it doesn't shine everything up. Cuts grease, oil, and bugs down quick.

Then I would use "auto-sol" to polish with...If I had any chrome left...

I used a "Scotch-brite" Pad to make my chrome look like brushed aluminum. So now I use the same to scrub the bugs off.
P.S. Don't try this on your signal light housings or they will rust...ask me how I know.

fountainofyouth.com get the quick shine. use about a dime sized dolop on a clean terry cloth towel, wipe it on, let it dry, wipe it off, like car wax and you will be amazed at how easy this job will be my friend.

ENJOY!!!!! NEWT!!!!!

A little hot sauce on a soft rag. They will wipe right off, and the chrome will shine like a new dime.

For what its worth last year i leaned it up against the hose on my compressor leaving a black mark.Last night i had enough and grab a pad of #00 steel wool and WOW with next to no effort it was gone with out a trace it was ever there.I then headed for the headers and with afew very lite brushes no more bugs, they were gone.I might have just had good luck but might be worth a try.
Good luck
