Any suggestions?
Youre never going to get out of spending money! Its all about money and thats what they want. I would go to court and when you get there you explain your situation to the prosecuter. He will ask you if youre willing to plead guilty to a lesser charge which is usually a local ordinance, you accept it it and pay the fine. The only good part is that its usually a "No Points" fine so it wont affect your insurance premiums.

Having watched many up close and personal I can see how people can have violent reactions to them.
Sorry Chet, but considering that LEOs often encounter the worst of humanity, such as during "domestic disturbances", (i.e., people who should have maybe separated years ago but are too friggin' dumb to realize it...and PREFERABLY before said dumb-asses had decided to procreate with each other...but that's a whole OTHER issue here, you understand! )...well...I can kinda see why some of the Boys-In-Blue can get, well lets say, rather calloused about people in general after a while!
(...to say nothin' about all the OTHER friggin' lowlife, dumb-ass, loser, bottom-feeding, stab-ya-in-the-back, good-for-nothin' morons which they almost assuredly encounter daily out there!!!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I encountered the very same people when I was a paramedic. I had a partner take a bullet to the face. Physical attacks were commonplace. My last two years on the job we were issued body armor. But when we arrived on the scene we were unarmed and only had our presence of mind to protect us. We generally arrived to those domestic disturbances about 10 minutes before the police if they showed up at all. Which was fine. As a rule they weren't what I would call effective at diffusing situations.

Yep, actually, I understand your point, Chet. I also think that the "Bunker Mentality" among(I would've said 'amongst' here IF we were talkin' about those English Bobbies over there...but we ain't ) many LEOs often can run way too deep within their ranks.
