When I was in the Navy, every base I was ever on had an "Automotive hobby shop" that was pretty much what you're describing. I think the rate was $10 per hour for a stall (maybe more for a stall with a lift) and all the tools you needed (from screwdrivers to welders and everything in between). I thought it was GREAT! I mean, if you've got a Chiltons or Haynes book, $10 (or even £20) per hour is still a damn sight cheaper than bringing it to a shop! Yes, most people who can do their own work would prefer to do it at home, but not everybody has the space. I've got a pretty well equipped garage now, but when I was single and living in an apartment, I'd have LOVED to find something like that in my area.

the only way I'd rent out a space would be if there was a computer with internet access sitting right there on the workbench, so I could get on ba.com for help if and when I needed it!!
Yeah, they'd be smart to at least offer free wifi (most folks have laptops today anyway)...
Every Army base I was stationed at had the same thing, and they had a few full time ASE mechanics to help out and give tips, and the bay was like 2 bucks an hour! Overnight parking was like $5. I always think it would be an awesome thing to have access to now.
Always remember to be yourself. Unless you suck. Then pretend to be someone else.
