grabbed a piece of aluminum angle and knocked up one of these.

I don't know whether to slot it or remove the cable and thread it.

Gary.

Thanks guys, I had to take the screen off to get at the knurled nut on the speedo head (I don't have small hands, LOL), but well worth it.

Job done

Very nice Gary and so simple to make. What size angle did you use?
Nothing like fabricating something up with your own hands.

My background is engineering but I'm now retired. I enjoy making bits like this but I do it the hard way, hacksaw, files, grinders and polishing wheels in a pillar drill. A modern CNC machine would knock stuff like this out in minutes.

I just used what I had lying around. Aluminum angle 5mm thick.
I marked out the hole and cut it out using a large drill (2 holes) and then a hacksaw.
The hole was then finished using a 'dremel' with a rotating sanding tool.
I then marked out the exterior shape to match the hole and roughly cut it out of the aluminum.
More filing and sanding to get the shape I wanted.
Then polishing mops in the pillar drill to get the finish (dirty job with aluminum)
Finally I drilled a 6mm hole to take the mounting bolt.
I cut the outside of the rubber original part off leaving a 'grommet' to bolt the piece to.
Used a locknut and tightened it just enough to allow it to swivel under pressure.
The finished item weighed only 16 grams.

Hope this helps anyone who fancies having a go themselves.

Gary.

Nice job there, Gary! Yep, I like workin' with aluminum, myself. Love the stuff after it's all polished up.

(...btw, how about postin' a little piece in the Lounge section's "Who are you, Why do you live where you live?" thread. I'd be interested to know how you ended up retiring in France...oh, and the story behind that Hot Rod VW Beetle there, too!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)
