So I go to the Sears web page and order a grill and a blu ray player. They say I have to pick them up at the store. This is not a problem Sears is only 3 miles from the house. I get the email last night saying my grill is in. Went down an picked it up this morning and they were so happy to help me at the store. Bring it home and it sets until I can put it together. Well at 6:00 I open the box and find that the top of the grill is crushed. Called Sears and talk to the manager he says bring it back no problem.
Well my son and I take it back. They look at it and say yep you need a new one. Now here is where things go south. They can’t just give me a new one. I have to return the bent one and buy a new one. OK this sounds stupid to me but OK. So I do the return and try to use my paypal debit card (because I had used paypal on line and think they had returned my money to my paypal account) that card is declined. I think that maybe paypal put the money back into my checking account so I pay with my debit card. This is when Sears dude says it will be 7 to 10 business days before I get my money back.
This is when I lost it I tell him to return everything and give me my money. He says he can do the return and since I had used my debit card it would be 7 to 10 days to get my money. I say no get the manager out here. So this 12 year old comes out to try and fix things. This is when I sent my 14 year old to the car. The kid says the sales dude is right. Now they have 600 of my dollars and I want them back. After a lot of yelling I got the 12 year old to give me $300 cash bake for the second grill. Went across the street to Lowes and got grill. The guys at Lowes said if I had any problems they will be happy to do a 1 for 1 swap.
How many of you think I will ever go into a Sears again?

Been through the same ordeal with sears over a glass table. No wonder they are in trouble.

I had a problem at K Mart (part of Sears) I bought 2 packs of 10 socks, realized I bought the wrong ones. The store is about 3 or 4 miles from my house so I went back. All I wanted to do was exchange the unopened pack for the ones I wanted never even tried to return the open pack or anything. Now I was talking to the same sales person who I had bought these from maybe 20 minutes earlier. I didn't want money just an even up exchange and they asked for the receipt. I didn't have it, it must have blown out of the bag outside (I looked for it when I left at home but it wasn't there either) They said there was nothing they could do! Not even an even exchange for a slightly taller sock of the same brand! The sales person remembered me and everything! No wonder the place is always empty! At least Wal Mart allows 3 returns a year with no receipt and an ID. I'll never go back to K Mart either.

I am usually willing to pay more for good customer service. That is why KMart is in a death spiral.

I had a nice strong coffee on the way to shop for a TV a few years ago. Kinda keeps the eyelids propped on a lazy Saturday. First stop - Sears in Winsted, CT, where I had previously purchased 3 washers, 3 dryers (2 of the 3 were gifts) , a riding lawn mower, a stove, a refrigerator, a dishwasher, and a few other items I don't recall right now. I asked: "Can I use the bathroom?" I was told "No."
Well, that's the way they want to roll, & since nature wins this battle every time it's waged, out the door I go. Not so much mad but more on a mission to find a bathroom. After my nature call, I'm already headed further West, and so I end up in Newington, & buy a TV from a locally owned store. The deal is closed and I have 50 miles to home. When you get to be 50+ one of the things you learn along the way is to never pass up a good bathroom, and so I ask: "Can I use the bathroom?" The salesman says "Certainly, it's right over there. " This place was half the size of Sears, and lo & behold - a public bathroom. Jeez - those folks thought of everything, and a clean one at that. :-)
Now I reckon that for Sears to lose one TV deal is like a flea on an elephant's arse, but a news report for Sears - When paying customers are in your store and want to give you money, and there's no bathroom for 3 miles around, maybe it would be a good thing to offer the facility to those in need. Maybe they will stay and spend said money.

We stopped shopping at Sears a long time ago. Around here they usually speak more spanish than english. Drives me crazy! Customer service is #1 for us and we don't have a problem paying for it. Wal-Mart is one place I only go when I absolutely have to, which is about once every 2 years.

Sears is out for me too. They suck in so many ways I will not go back to them, a policy I've had for many years. Remember when they were # 1 for tools? We used to swear by Sears back in the day... but not any more.

A lot of those policies came from borrowers. They buy stuff on the card when they need it, including clothes. Use it for a week or so, keep it very clean. Repack it then take it back. By putting the money directly back on the card that same borrower goes and stocks up on more stuff he or she will rent for free for the next few weeks.
Formal dresses to large power tools are done this way.
Many think it is so Sears can hold the money for another week. I don't think that is the case.

Bucky, I just did that on my bike. Stopped for a snack, bathroom and gas. Asked to use the bathroom. They said no. I said "Then I don't need to use your gas either". Rode directly across the street.

Yeah, we have a small store here in Helena, just appliances and tools and I've not had a problem. Indeed we've had an influx of big box stores and they've stepped it up. Haven't tried to pee there, though. Just bought a Kenmore washer and dryer in January and (I can't believe I can get excited about appliances) they're awesome.

Ya see, this whole thing just confirms my theory about Sears! (...it's all been downhill for them since Alvah Curtis Roebuck died!!!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

there was an incident some yrs back that involved my wife getting hurt at sears. the way she was treated and the final outcome of that experience was not good. hence, if my wife ever catches me shopping at sears for anything, i am in big trouble. she dont mind me going to k-mart (good thing cuz craftman is there)but saying sears in our house is like when our 10yr old son droped the f-bomb on her. lol so i guess this is just one more reason to not shop there
ENJOY!!!!! NEWT!!!!!

I got a pair of boots from them once with a "life time" warranty on the soles. 3 weeks later the sole fell off of one boot. When I took the boots back they said that the warranty was for the sole if it wore out, not fell off. After a huge arguement, and me raising hell at them to no avail. I never walked back into a sears again.

A few years back when Sears and K-fa*t merged (or whatever they did), I was in hopes that K-*art would "rise" to the standards that I once knew to be Sears level. WRONG!!! Went the other way and now they are both at the same level of incompetence and questionable quality. I guess what goes around, comes around. Back in the day, a Sears catalog was always found in an outhouse (and not for reading). Now the catalog isn't even good for THAT!
I'm speeding because I have to get there before I forget where I was going.

My last visit was to a Sears "appliance store". Went in to buy a washer and dryer. The extremely young girl, that tried to assist me as soon as I walked in, spoke English horribly even though it was her native tongue. She was loud and boisterous and ended each sentence with "...know what I'm saying" and " are ya feeling me". She kept pressing for extended warranties and knew nothing about the products she was selling that wasn't listed on the placard in front of her. I told her manager he needed to train his people better and told him I was going next door to home depot to purchase my washer and dryer. Within six months of opening, the Sears was gone... never seen that happen before. I always used to try to shop Sears because I love how they back "Extreme Home Makeover"... yeah I am a sucker for that show.. but find other than the tool department, I hate shopping there...

Boy, we still use sears and i have a lot of respect for their after sales support. I just recently got a replacement drive gear for a near 20 yr old garage door opener along with a quick tutorial of how to replace it.

Dangit son. Reminds me when I had stopped at Michelle's Mart - 1837 Hubbard Brookfield Road, Hubbard, OH for gas. (Brand new station I thought and I just confirmed.) I asked the gal if she had a toilet I could use. No Sir. grrrr. I HAD to fill up. So I did. Then road about 5 miles down the road and found the perfect place to take a break. Ah what a relief it was and a mellow place for a break.

Funny how things work out!
