Sometimes it's totally unexpected. When she was a puppy, our Lab/Spaniel got out after our blind neighbor left our gate open. Brandy had never been off leash before, outside of our fenced backyard, and playfully ran right into the street. We were lucky, her collar cought on something hanging on the car that hit her and that kept her from being crushed. Apart from a punctured lung, a few lost teeth and a $1500 vet bill, all is good.
