Anybody got any recommendations for an aftermarket windscreen/shield for my 04 America? I live in Fla. so would not want one to stay on all the time. Looking for some wind protection for longer rides of maybe over 150 miles. Looking for something that would be relatively easy to remove for the shorter trips (especially in the summer). Any thoughts/ideas would be appreciated! Thanks,Jiggy

Hi Larry, I have a 19" Memphis Shades Fats. I had a Memphis Shades 15" Slim. The Slim was actually better at stopping head buffeting, but in all my infinite wisdom, chose to use the Fats instead. National Cycle makes a handlebar mount that would be better, but I am all "dollared out" right now, even though the NC screen is less than $80. Windvest has the best reviews here, but at $320, most folks pass. Take this info and investigate. I have used both my MS shields in every possible position, but never got the buffeting to go away (keep in mind that I have a really big head). By the way, I have the Memphis Shades Lowers as well.

IMHO the Givi A601 GIVI page is the way to go. I was turned on to it by member JJ and wouldn't live without one now. Before the Givi I had a Triumph Roadster screen and the head buffeting was terrible! It's non-existent with the Givi. I don't recall where online it was purchased, but it was only about $100. Perhaps JJ still has pics of his bike posted with a Givi screen on it. They are SWEET! And if you want to pop it off, it's only a matter of 2 bolts.

similar to the Givi a couple of us have used the slipstreamer viper ss10. Inexpensive and fairly effective for occasional use.
My permanent screen is a memphis fats with lowers.

Looking at the Givi site I think mine was actually a 600 as it was tinted.
This is when it was on the Trident, you can better see the tint.

I have the same buffeting problem with the Roadster screen. It's really bad and I hardly ever use it anymore. How does the size of the Givi compare to the Roadster? Do you look over or through the Givi? Thanks

I have a Triumph Summer Screen. I like it. There's some buffeting, but I don't think it's too bad. Any of you guys tried the flyscreens? I'm thinking about one of those for the summer. Will they keep the bugs out of your teeth?.

It's about half the size...The cool thing with the Givi is you can adjust it's angle, pull it in closer to you, further away, etc. It can be adjusted to a MUCH greater degree than the Triumph shields can, but governed by the mounting hardware. You look WAY over it and the wind is directed over you head. The link I have in my first post gives the dimensions of each shield they make.

If you check page 2 of JJ's photo-posts, you will see a shot of his burgundy '03 BA from behind. This gives you a good idea of it's size.

I have a Slipstreamer "Cobra", I found it on Bikebandit.com, had to buy the 1 inch bracket set to go with it, total cost with the bracket set, $80. not sure what the price is now. Shield comes off real easy just two thumb screws and its off. The black clamps on the handlebars is all thats left. That price was with an AMA discount. Its a small sceen and little or no buffeting. The wife doesn't like it because it directs the wind right into her face. Keeps the wind off my chest thou.Just added pics of Cobra shield and other accessories to my photo album!

I've got the roadster screen on mine and I have no problem with buffeting. I've heard people mention that putting visors on the headlights stops it - however I had the visors before the screen so I haven't been able to compare. Probably cheaper to get yourself some visors to try out than to go shopping for new screens. Worst case it'll only cost you a couple of bucks.

It is a universal round-bar fit. I would caution that if you decide on the Givi 600/601, the instructions state to cut off the excess mount rod once you position the screen where you want it. I thought I'd be smart and not cut anything, thus having the entire length of rod as adjustment. Only later did I notice the 2 very small dings in the tank from the mount rod ends (they are rubber capped which didn't allow for a scratch) where they had contacted the tank on full lock turns. Once mounted in a nominal position you can carefully do full lock turns and see how much rod you absolutely have to cut off, it's not much, it ultimately depends on how you position things, you may not have to cut anything. Just do a careful check before you start jamming. It is a great screen.
