I had great fun as a kid playing hide and seek but it had to be dark out, kick the can too. Wish I could go play right now.
I learned all I need to know about life by killing smart people and eating their brains.

There was nothing like a hard day of playing tag or cowboys and indians, maybe skating a dozen times around the block on the old steel wheeled strap on skate with the toe clamps. Dinner with the whole family at the table followed by laying on the floor in front of the big floor model Ward Airline all band radio with a movie dial and magic eye tuning to listen to Gangbusters, the FBI in peace and war, Lights out, Life With Luigi, etc.

The Lone Ranger on the radio!! Then came TV. My Dad had a furniture store and pretty much had the first TV in town. We'd have people dropping by quite a bit to see a show or two (when you could get decent enough reception). Children were not allowed to play with the rabbit ears.

Born in '47, a lot of which was experienced growing up on a small dairy/farm in central Cali, wouldn't replace it if I could.

Born today 56 years ago and had a pretty good childhood , mostly good memories. Can't change the past.

Been there, done that.
But what about air rifles (BBguns) slingshots, rock fights, building dams in creeks, and bungers(fire crackers) they always went well in letter boxes.

... and cardboard box sleds on grassy slopes, trolleys (billy carts), matchbox toys, toy guns, spud guns, slot cars, Sunday morning stories on the radio, family board games after dinner, Brylcream plastered hair and best shiny shoes for the reluctant trek to Sunday School, layby for that longed for model aeroplane (Airfix of course), self-built tree-houses that would never pass a any building ordinance code in the world in a million years, falling out of said tree-houses for the same reason ... I'll think of some more later ...

A great kids game some of the houses round our way were built to house folk displaced after the war. Instead of them being pulled down they were still in use when we were growing up. These Pre Fabs had tin roofs ooooh the fun to be had playing Thunder and lightning.....a well placed 1/2 brick onto the roof and it rolling down sounded like bloody thunder ....seconds later the occupier would come out the house like lightning offering us kids the best chases ever ...a simple pleasures of kids.....

I had a red "Flexible Flyer", Daisy Golden BB gun, Davey Crockett Coonskin Cap, watched Roy Rogers, Sky King. I cried when the last scene of Walt Disney's Davy Crockett at the Alamo ended. My dog was Timmy and we lived on a farm in the midwest. How ideal is that? Now I work at a place not far from there that is a home for abused and neglected boys. www.ranchlife.org . I was a 'free range' kid for sure. Living in the country I was able to raise my kids that way, too. Kinda drove my wife crazy but they somehow lived and turned into pretty cool people.

In Delaware and Philly, we called them lightning bugs. I assume they are the same as fireflys. I remember all of it.
My kids in middle 20s did a lot of it. It is going away fast though.
Kids graduating from college today never opened a garage door manually or changed the channel on a television. Many don't remember not having a computer in the house.
I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.
