Well I've had it in the shop 2 weeks now, and I trust the shop. They say they can't fix it. It was reading high speeds while traveling low speeds, and finally started howling about it. The speedo issue had been erratic, sometimes (usually) working okay, then sometimes totally off the chart. SO, What Do I Do? 1) Order a new part from Triumph or BikeBandit? 2) Hope someone here has removed their's and might be willing to part with it? 3) Try Something New? I've checked out the Dakota Digital thread, and that does sound like a lot of money to have to rig something that still may not be too reliable. I would be satisfied with a big tachometer mounted where the current speedometer fits, or even one mounted on the bar. I could live without a speedometer, but one would be nice, especially if it would fit in the current tachometer hole in the console....but they must be backlit for night time use. I saw the other thread about the 2240:60 ratio and the fleebay speedo - nice, but is the unit any good? And how much headache is it to make a part like that work on MY bike? I'll have an independent m/c shop do it, regardless - I have neither the time nor the patience (and certainly not the knowledge/expertise) to pull something like that off. Just looking for ideas, if anyone has any pics of related mods, that would be great. It sounds like my unit isn't going to see 70K miles after all. (The bike will, but the speedo won't.)

My suggestion is forget the stock speedo, which as I recall are huge bux to replace. I LOVE the one I mounted in the console on my bike. It is backlit, easy to read and includes a tach plus a bunch of other scientific stuff like average speed, # of hours, highest speed, two trip meters and so on. Btw, my stock speedo did the same thing... that's why I replaced it. Well, THAT and the fact I thought it was kinda fugly. http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/forums/...ge=2#Post439640

That looks good, Keith. Does that have a neutral light on it too?
+1 on Pinwall. Just make sure you look closely at the pictures and find the description on the condition of the item.

Speedometer cables going bad were mentioned on this board in the early years ~~ 02, 03. At some point around 04/05(?) we stopped hearing much about it? They generally broke on the wheel end. Mine (BA02), broke shortly after going 70 mph leaving a gas station If I remember corectly (which is always up for debate), some dealers replaced them free-of-charge at the time. Those dealers earned the label "Good Guys". Others might chime in. What is "chime" anyway jh

Ya, we'll give Keith all the time it takes for him to acknowledge that he read your post, and acknowledges whether or not he wants it. After that, if he doesn't want it, I'll take it,Thank you.
