I saw on new speedmaster or British customs site that getting the 11.5 inch progressive shocks was only recommended for riders in the 150 lbs range. I weigh 180ish and want to get the 11.5 inch front and rear progressive shocks and springs. Am I gonna have problems with bottoming out or silly things Ike that if I lower her. Also I know others havedone this so the side stand doesn't need altered or anything right?

Thank you for advice as always.
Brett

I have the 412's in 12.5 inch and weigh around 180 also. I found that setting the preload up one notch was required.

Can you get the 412's with heavy duty springs? I know you can get the 812's with them.

812 s and 412 s are the same shock, I don't believe the H. D. springs are an option on the shortys, but I would call Progressive and ask, they unofficially beefed up a pair of 11.5" 412 s for me, $37.50 and shipping. I weigh 235 lbs. 3 clicks up for the setting, rides a little stout, but they don't bottom out.

Yes I think you're right that the shortys don't come in HD. So general opinion would be click them up a few notches and I should be ok. Anyone had issues with pipes/pegs dragging on turns with lowering? Consistently I mean. I know know and then a peg will touch.

Yes, I scraped a lot more than I was comfortable with, I raised that bike back up to stock height and those shortys of mine sit in a box, but you don't weigh as much, so you might be ok, you will still lose clearance, be careful at first.

Hmm so you must have some inexpensive lightly used short shocks you might like to sell then, Ryk...

I don't know about lightly used, they look as if they have been down the road aways to me, they were just plain scary on curves on the '05 I bought from a member, that's why I sent them off to Progressive to be checked out and rehabilitated, turned out (part numbers) they were for a sportster, a new (different, hopefully correct?) springs were installed and mailed back. Rode it some, didn't bottom out any more, but still scraped my Epcos, that's when I decided cool looking vs. handling needed to be prioritized. I'm no super corner carver, if you wondering, but roads don't always go straight. What have you got to trade? For $212, I'd just buy new

Fair enough buddy. I appreciate the honesty. I think I will go with new ones. Seeing how I don't have any interesting trades right now
