I would suggest Lt Col Paddy Mayne.

The guy was a seriously talented amateur boxer.
The guy played rugby for Ireland and the British Lions.
He was one of the founding members of the Special Air Service. He pioneered driving up and down heavily defended enemy airstrips in a jeep and shooting up planes. Went into occupied France to work with and train the French Resistance.
Was awarded 4 Distinguished Service Orders (DSO), one of those should have been a Victoria Cross (VC). Not forgetting all the awards that France bestowed upon him.
Ended up doing polar exploration in Antartica after the war.
Died in a car crash in 1955. Not a bad list of achievements for someone who died when he was only 40.
I'd say that's a man's man. You never know they might be able to find an actor worthy enough to play the guy if they made a film about him.

But I still think Homer Simpson is the "ubermale".
