Ok, so I've decided to wrap the headers. Got the wrap and wire... But the headers seem to have a double-wall... So, for the folks who've done the wrap, did you cut the outer wall off? Did you just wrap over it?

Thanks
Lance

Wrapped over it and avoided the crossover pipe.

Wrapped over, and stopped at the cross-over.

(cause I would NEVER remove the cross-over!!!)

With a little creativity you can wrap around the crossover and have it work nicely. Check out the link of "my bike" in my sig.

Same reply. Wrap and avoid. Buy good wrap and spray with water.

Hey Stevie, where did you get your wrap?

What kind and how much did you use?

Gotta do mine as headers are going rusty.

I used Thermo-tec and got the thinner one in black but its all personal preference really. I bought one roll and unrolled it and cut it in half so I would have the same amount for each pipe. The trick is to spray it with a bottle of water on a fine mist spray as you wrap the pipes so you can get it really tight. I used stainless clamps on each end to hold it. When you are finished you need to cook it before you ride it and there will be smoke. Eventually it gets less and then you can ride it. For about a week there will be smoke when you ride but it goes away after a while. Good Luck.

I got 1" width x 50' roll but it depends on how much you overlap or what look you are trying to achieve.

I soaked mine, wrapped and then let it dry. After that I shot it with flat black bar-b-que paint...

Mike, really like the look.....a blacked out headlight bucket would look very cool on your bike too.

my wrap came from an auto parts store. after time the graphite color will turn white, so keep the gril paint or heigh heat enamel around. Tape /paper off anyting you dont want overspray on and go to town! you can even use a enamel that matches your bike color. getting ready to do that (red high heat with a bit of metal flake over for the final coat.

They sell a high temp. silicon color spray seal made specifically for coloring/sealing the header wrap. Both of mine came from DRI, and were side-by-side at A-1 Performance.

After initial spray application, I touch up about once a year.
(still using the original can)

Thinking back, I haven't done ANY touch-up in about two years now, but I've never minded showing a little character!

(Others may want to touch-up semi-annually, depending on how much "pretty" you need.)

Tonight I am using Red engine enamel over the wrap, then just for looks a touch of the Duplicolor retro red metalflake. http://www.duplicolor.com/products/metalSpecks/

I have my helmet painted with it and metalic silver and gold pin stripes. (matches the bike and looks retro as hell!)

the air cleaners are also retro red and so is the chain guard. I think it will flow nicely. I need to also paint teh rear break res red.
