it is a very easy install/de-install. the pennies in the spring was alot of help. the instructions are very straight foreward ant it took about 20 minutes to do. you will loose some ground clearance on left turns, that is why i removed it, but i put it back on for maintence.
If it isn't broke, I haven't messed with it.

Somebody around here a while back(I wish I could remember who) has said he's very pleased with the Norman Hyde center stand he's bolted on his bike. I remember him saying that it was not only a few bucks cheaper than the Rivco model(this, even after the U.K. to U.S. shipping charges involved), but most especially that he's finding the Norman Hyde model isn't grounding while in turns, which seems to be a common complaint about the Rivco model by many of the folks who have those on their bikes.
(...in fact, didn't somebody with a Rivco stand recently remove his and sold it in the Classified forum around here because of this very issue?)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

For the benefit of all, here's the message in question (boss is now eating lunch):
Norman Hyde Centre Stand Sent to: ThreeDog
Hi--both Dek and myself have installed these. Mine is on an America--don't know for sure about Dek's. No pics from my effort, but maybe Dek has some.
The job takes about 40 minutes--you must remove the left pipe to run the bolts for the stand into the frame. Attaching the spring is the next chore--a little brute force is needed. Did the coins-between-the-coils thing with the spring, but it was tough--took about three tries. Coins kept working loose. Be sure to grease the pivot points.
As far as pulling the bike up on the stand after installation, it's mostly finesse. You might find pulling on the frame or on the rear foot-pegs helps as you plant your right foot on the stand and use your left on the handlebar-grip. I wound-up using a length of nylon webbing as a strap to loop around the frame and my right hand--it gave me a little more room to do the rock-back-and-stand maneuver.
After the bike is up, the stand is great for steadying it to do service or repairs. Even with the shipping from the UK to the USA, it was cheaper from Norman Hyde than from Rivco.
Good luck with it!
Cheers,
John
P.S. - as noted above, I really have to lean it over on left turns to achieve a scrape with the Norman Hyde stand. Can't say anything about a Rivco or other.
Best wishes to all!
John

Many thanks John, and all who contributed, glad I didn't get you in trouble with the boss! Norman Hyde it is then, and as I'm UK rather than US based it works out even better Why they don't come as standard, or Triumph think that they can charge £250 is beyond me

Probably true Joe, however if I recall correctly, at least one could purchase from the factory an optional center stand for the standard Bonnies from the get-go back in 2001.
And, even though our BAs and Speedies were designed with those bolting up points for a center stand, it took a few years after the introduction of these models before one was available, and even then it was from the aftermarket and not a factory item.
(...further giving me the impression that even Triumph Motorcycles LTD of Jolly Ole England often thinks of our bikes as that proverbial "Redheaded Stepchild"!)

For info, Norman Hyde has produced a chrome lifting handle for use with the centre stand. Bit expensive at £28 but really useful, put mine on yesterday and it makes a heck of difference.
