OK, so what books do you all recommend for a somewhat experienced rider? I need a new book to read!

Hi Matt,
Total Control by Lee Parks. Gets into the geometry and balance of riding, braking, etc. Explains what is happening to the two gyroscopes we are riding on. Very good read! Here's a link to Amazon:

Thanks, I need some early Spring reading. Anything else? I might take a ride to Borders this morning.

Total Control by Lee Parks... I keep it in the "Solo Reading Lounge". Every now and then I re-read a few paragraphs.

I haven't read them, but Keith Code's books always seem to get good reviews in some of the other groups I visit.

Coincidentally, I ordered "Total Control" and "Ride Hard, Ride Fast" yesterday. I hope they're the best!

I heard that Proficient Motorcycling was good. Maybe I'll just have to buy both.

I'll second Proficient Motorcycling. I's great book. I bought it even before I bought my bike, but I still learn something every time I pick it p.

I don't have that one Grzegorz, but bought the other one "Proficient Motorcycling - Mastering the Ride" by Hough last year. Very Good. I picked up the "Total Control" book a month ago. I have just started looking at it.

I think the Hough books generally really get into the street skills part of riding, while the Parks book goes more into understanding the physics and improving respective skill levels. They're both well worth it.

I also bought Proficient Motorcycling and began reading it prior to the motorcyle safety course and the purchase of my bike. Finished it after the purchase of my Speedy. It is a very good book although perhaps a bit technical in some areas.

I have two books that Rod kindly gave me after passing his advanced motorcycle course:

Institute of advanced motorists manual - Pass your advanced motorcycling test - ISBN 1-870979-65-6

Motorcycle Roadcraft - Police rider's handbook to better motorcycling - ISBN 0-11-341143-X

Both great books, obviously hods of advice to improve your riding skills and road safety. Lots of common sense but gets you looking at how you ride and how they think you should be riding. Both well worth a read IMO, however much experience you've had. Never to old to learn new tricks or relearn those forgotten!

It gets read, just more specific so less topics here, hence the "low traffic".

And just to pop on the moderator hat for a minute, if everyone DID take the time to read all the forums and post stuff correctly in the first place, it would get more traffic (end of rant...)

"Motorcycling Excellence" ISBN 1-884313-01-9 and "Smooth Riding The Pridmore Way" ISBN 1-884313-46-9. I found them both very helpful.

Gives a somewhat experienced rider something to do after he finishes the book.

I know this is about books, but there are some DVD's out there I find pretty good also. Jerry "Motorman" Palladino has several with helpful information. I have some of them and watch them a few times a year (in the winter mostly). “Ride Like a Pro III” and “Surviving the Mean Streets” for me are the best. I got two of the more basic ones for friends with very little experience. They said they got a lot out of watching them. “How to Get Your Motorcycle Endorsement the Easy Way” and “Learn to Ride the Easy Way”

Hey,

Nice meeting you last week. I got the book a few weeks ago and have been reading and re-reading. Lots of good stuff in there. Thanks for suggesting it.
