I alternate between feeling like Arte Johnson's "old Man" character on Laugh-In, and humming "Look on the Bright Side of Life" from The Life of Brian

Like folks have said, finding competent medical care you can trust is key. Being somewhat hardheaded, listening to that competent advice also figures in there somewhere. Failing that, Ibuprofen is a wonderful invention.
