Over in the "Member's Ride" Forum and on the "Home Page" of this fine website dedicated to the these machines we've come to appreciate so much, there is a showcasing of a VERY nice customized Triumph America going by the title "Nick Serrano's 2004 America", and contained within said showcasing is a link to another website named "Chopcult.com", and which if one clicks on that will contain some additional text describing in more detail as to how Nick customized his fantastic looking bike.

Okay, and now that I've prefaced this with the above explanation, here goes......
_________________________________________________________

Yep! Once again I think Nick did a great job on customizing his BA, however I gotta say after reading the text at that Chopcult.com website offered up by one Mr. Bill Bryant about this bike which includes the following:

Quote:

The Triumph Bonneville's tubby older sister is a pretty homely unit by anyone's standard. Probably drop-dead reliable and comfortable, but what a bland package. Our friend Nick summed up the Triumph America perfectly when he opined, "This thing looks like the Brits said, 'What do Americans want?' Forwards, big ugly tank, windshield, lots of chrome; just tart up a Bonnie with that trash and call it the America!

The result is an assault on our collective patriotic sensibilities. Nick picked one up anyway, before his custom motorcycle pallet had matured, and he thought it was OK. It didn't take much exposure to proper customs for his tastes to change, but he'd fallen in love with the machine and didn't want to sell it and start over with something else.

...and, his "parting shot"...

Quote:

"Now it's easy to make a good-looking bike look great, but very difficult to make an awkward motorcycle look proper."

...well, like I was sayin' here, I think Mr. Bill Bryant...well...Mr. Bryant can kiss my ass!!!

Because, evidently while he appears to be able to piece together sentences reasonably well, he seems unable to recognize a diamond in the rough when he spots one! A "diamond", I might add, which in its original uncut form is ALREADY a pretty nice lookin' gem!!!

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Dwight, I was wondering what was up when I saw your deleted posts in member's rides regarding Nick's bike. I think his bike is awesome but there are several things I would change. I'd have left the beautiful headers unwrapped and I'd have left the forward controls. I like that stretched out cruising position and I love the look of the Bonneville America,(have since the first time I ever saw one).
I like Chop Cult for what it is, a bunch of guys hackin' things up and making them their own. Sometimes their finished product looks polished and beautiful and sometimes it looks worse then where they started,(in my opinion). I disagree with the opinions of Bill Bryant completely,(I think most people would). But we're bigger then that. Oh, one more thing, our site is better then theirs, but theirs is still good. I wouldn't let the ramblings of one guy bother you too much. I think the Bonneville America and Speedmaster represent the best bang for the buck on the market for 10 years running.

Nah! I doubt that too, Steve! 'Cause ya see, Mr. Bill Bryant(who it appears, states his opinions as "fact"...THIS being the KEY as to why the guy can "kiss my ass", btw) is probably of the mind that the "only proper britbike is one that looks like a stock 1966 Triumph Bonneville OR a 1966 Triumph Bonneville that's been "cafed-out, OR a 1966 Triumph Bonneville that's been bobbed 'American-style'"...much like Nick's America.

And so, sorry but I'll bet the stock Speedmasters to him probably look much too much like the Triumph America(but just more blacked out, of course) for him to think any differently of them, either.

Yep, BUT the...ahem..."gentleman" even got THAT wrong!

Because ya see, and as you probably know, the standard Bonnies are ACTUALLY a year OLDER than are the "Cruiser" models.

(...and ummmmm...if the guy thinks a Triumph America is "tubby", then I wonder if he thinks a Harley Fatboy should maybe be a participant on NBC's "The Biggest Loser"?????!!!!)

True, but I think that the T-100 is too skinny. I like my baby with a little back. I agree with the focus groups who explained the T-100's lack of immediate success in the U.S. by saying it just isn't substantial enough. Also explains why the Harley riders really tend to dig our rides.

I'm not gonna waste my time rebutting such a narrow minded asshat as Mr Bryant. I personally don't care what anyone else thinks, I love my SM. If you like what you ride then that's all that matters.

Well, bill bryant (no caps on a proper name for disrespect) is an idiot that can hardly recognize the simplistic beauty that makes our machines so easy to customize. As well as easy on the eyes as a plain stock bike. He is un-imaginative ,and a unidimentional in his thinking.
I have seen many customization variations of our bikes each of which amazes me (whether I like the mods or not). The artistic and creative ideas that are bore out of these bikes are not limited to the typical bolt on billet chrome crap.
I myself, have laid awake at night and imagined countless detailed out ideas for these machines, and have dreamed of the day I can put my hands to my ideas.

I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago. Edgar Allan Poe

That would be so appropriate on so many levels

And as for Mr. Bryant; well, as I've paraphrased before: Aesthetics is subjective

And my objective opinion of his subjectivity is that he's a moron

That's true, and probably a wise course of action to follow there, Ian.

I think what got my goat here is that it appears Mr. Bryant is an educated man, what with his better than average use of syntax and his overall apparent command of the English language. And so, I have to ask: How could a guy like that be sooooooo friggin' CLUELESS about the obviously superior aesthetics of these Triumph Cruisers???

I mean, I might NOT have gotten my ire up here as much if the guy wrote his piece more like some run-of-the-mill HARLEY RIDER!

(...ya know what I mean?!...stuff like screwin' up and spellin' things such as "your" when he really meant "you're", OR "there" when he really mean "their"!...like I said, HE appears to be an EDUCATED man here...yep, sorry Mr. Bryant, but there's NO excuse for your closed-mindedness here!!!!)

What a load.
I get many compliments for this "older" sister i own. My neighbor (who used to own old Triumphs) tells me how pretty it is every time he sees me out on our street when he's walking by and i stop to talk to him.
Every time!
Had an electrician come over to give me a quote on some work. He saw my BA in the garage and wanted to buy it on the spot. He thought it was beautiful and loved the color (Cardinal Red).
The compliments are never ending and this just in my little paths around this rural locale.
What i glean from this guy's remarks, despite his intelligence, is that he's a snob. Pure and simple.

Yeah! YEAH!!! Good catch there, Bill!!!

(...soooooo, maybe the guy DOES ride a Harley after all, EH????!!!!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

This is no different than that cockup with the Brit Iron Rebels. People have their little clubs. Just because we're inclusive doesn't mean everyone else is or has to be.
