I picked up some armoured Tourmaster pants, when I bought my first TBA, that I personally know will protect your hide in a laydown.
I've been wearing chaps around town (looking at adding some Diamond Gusset Kevlar Jeans or Bohn armour), but will wear the Tourmaster on longer rides.
And yes, they kept me warm & dry in winter riding weather.
