speedy fired up & got up the road a mile or so & it dies like i cut the key off. tried & tried for 15 mins & nothing. friends come to give me a ride & what do you know it fired right up & got me home. thought cdi might be the cause so I tried a loaner & wouldnt even fire. put the old 1 back on & tinkered with it for a few mins & she fired right up. i let her run a few mins & shut off & tried to restart she blurbbed & popped a few times & finally fired up ran her around for 5 mins or so & she died & wouldnt restart. any ideas? ive tried everything i can think of.
we should do this every weekend!

Howdy JR, Long time buddy. Check your battery connections, the ground wire at the voltage regulator on the bottom of the bike and all of the wires on the fuse box. Had the same problem before and it was a loose negative connection at the battery. Have a happy!

I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.

If it runs fine parked but dies while traveling I would check the kickstand switch first? Just a thought...

same thing happened to me JR, It happened shortly after I bought my Goldwing. I think my BA was jealous. I finally gave up and took it to the dealer.

When it happened to me it was a corroded connector on the kickstand killswitch causing an intermittent short. I never would've found it. The Spokane dealer figured it out.

that didnt cure it. turns over but wont fire but if i pull the plug wire and check to make sure its firing & it will then fire up on 1 cylinder & run. i can put the plug wire back on & it will fire right up & run on both cylinders.
we should do this every weekend!

Is it possible the plug wires are bad?
Im not sure what year machine your riding so this may have been done or upgraded etc etc. I learned this year changing spark plugs every year is recommended. So if you didn't go that route it could be an option. But sounds electrical to me too. IMHO.

Yota, There was a thread on Triumph Rat very similar to your problems. Punters there had even money bets on spark v/s fuel over a 4 page race. Fuel eventually came across the line first and here is the thread. Might be worth a read? web page

I'd drain the tank and float bowls and put in a fresh tank of fuel+Seafoam. You might also check the tank vent line, a sticky tip-over valve or a clog at the end might give you the symptoms you are describing.

I read this whole thread about this poor guy's nightmare with his Speedmaster. Amazingly, after a zillion trips to the dealer and the better part of 2 seasons without his bike, someone figured out that his vent line was plugged. We would have come up with that immediatly, it's one of the first things we have people check. This site rocks! Also, well into the thread someone mentions the tiny fuel screen in the rail at the carbs, stuff we all take for granted. Again, This site rocks!
