I found a short bio on Steve McQueen in the Motorcycle Hall of Fame.

That's a good article. One thing that bothers me, though, is that they continue to propagate the myth that McQueen died of lung cancer. He didn't. He died from mesothelioma, an aggressive cancer caused by exposure to asbestos and nothing else. It usually shows up in the lungs, but can occur in the abdominal lining as well.

So long as the deaths of famous people from this disease can be written off as "lung cancer", the extent of its toll and the danger of asbestos exposure may not get the attention deserved.
A couple others off the top of my head:
Andy Kaufman.
Warren Zevon.
