I have one on hand and tested them, the material is not suited to grip metal. A band may work but it will likely slip. It really does work well on rubber grips. When I tested it it was 28 F and left it four 20 minutes and it never moved a mm. Impressive.
Kuryakyn makes a Throttle lock that will work on the stock and Kuryakyn Grips, tested that one too, works nice, similar in appearances and style to the old Vista Cruise.
