Well right now I pretty much just wear my double layer Carhartts. Nice stiff jeans, comfy enough, and I haven't found any good riding pants yet, so I'm thinkin they will be a good in between.

Jeans only need about 5 feet of pavement before they are shredded through exposing your skin. So your double layers may give you ten feet, 15 if you are lucky? Then you'll get to spend some quality time in the 'scrub room' at the ER wide awake while the dirt and gravel is literally scrubbed out of your open wounds. No thanks! The draggin jeans have kevlar in them, so even though the jean material will shred, the kevlar will keep your skin protected from the pavement. And while out riding, i've personally never felt a difference between them and regular jeans other than they are heavier.
