According to the trades, Triumph will offer 100% trade-in value on Americas & Speedmasters after a year towards what they term as "a more advanced rider's bike." This is similar to what H-D did with the 883 Sportster recently. Also, Triumph is cracking down on dealers who advertise discounted prices on or off on the Internet just like H-D. And they have a new US CEO... formally from H-D/Buell. Who wudda thunk it? /M

After all the money and style I have poured into her, I would want more than 100% trade in. Trade in on what? A more advanced riders bike???? What am I retarded?? What are they tryin to say here? My speedy is for beginners? I am insulted by this.

Now now, settle down and take a breath here, Steve. Don't you remember how many newbies have come on this website and have asked us if a BA or Speedy would make a good first motorcycle for them, and how many times many of us around here have answered their question in the affirmative?!
We've NEVER advised them to purchase a Speed Triple or a Rocket III instead now, have we???!!!

Relax, maybe they just mean advanced in age and you can trade it in on a powder blue Buick.

If I read this right, they're offering 100% back on 1 year-old Speedy's and BA's? I would almost go get a new Speedmaster just to take them up on that deal! After a year, the bugs would be out of the new Tiger 800's, and the new Trophy might be out by then, too. I would like to try a new Speedmaster for a while just to see if I like it or not, what with the shorter wheelbase and changes in rake, front wheel size, losing the front rotor, etc. Question is, are they looking for 1-year old Speedy's and BA's now? Or will they still be offering that deal a year from now? Regardless, I'm keeping the one I have. That one they can't have back.

This by no way means that I consider our bikes to be beginners bikes but they are more suitable for beginners to ride as opposed to the rocket III or speed triple.
What the above statement suggests is just that, that our bikes are for beginners and that we should "upgrade" to an advanced riders motorcycle.
That is what I am unhappy about. No wonder they have started producing motorcycles that smell of rice because they cannot see what you and I see in these Americas and Speedmasters that we all love. The style is retro and yes the bonnevilles have it but the Thunderbirds dont.
Okay I have said it now. I'm okay.

Well, maybe look at it this way then, Steve...I don't think there's all that many motorcycles out there that can BE as, well let's say, "well-rounded" as these mid-size Triumph Cruisers are. They're not so over-powering and heavy as to be too much for newbies to handle, and yet, they DO still pretty much provide sufficient enough power and very good handling characteristics enough to keep even those of us entertained for years and years who have many years of riding experience under our belts. (...in other words, they're the nearly perfect motorcycle, and those out there who can't see that are evidently not as "nearly perfect" as WE ARE!!!)

Maybe the whole plan is to get people to buy an America or Speedmaster by promising 100% buy back for a trade in knowing full well that after a year riding an America or Speedmaster no one is going to take them up on it.
That's some pretty smart advertising.

Told ya so. If I get my Roadster I'm assuming my TBA will be mostly a commuter bike from then on. But I'm not getting rid of it. And if I had to sell one for financial reasons, the Roadster will go first (actually, the non-running '65 fastback might go first ).

I still say Triumph should get the He!! away form anything or one associeated W/ HD. Just look at the newer bikes,,, the tanks look like a sporty instead of a Triumph. I LOVE MY CUT IN TANK and I have seen many on here ask "Do you think the old tanks will fit the new bike???" The hard bags on the Rocket and shield look like the same crapola in the HD line. I really think they are going in a bad direction. I THOUGHT "GO YOUR OWN WAY" was something they ment. Where is Bloor on this? Oh yea I forgot, he actually doesnt like motorcycles and didnt know he bought this wonderfull line of bikes when he purchased Hinkley to make a sub division. He started out great, Ill say that, but he has let bean counters do the rest. What happened to consumer input when it comes to the design of the new bikes? They really did the home work for the Bonnies, T-100s and TBA and Speedmaster. Then they go and stop the whole styling cue that people see first??? Oh then stop the production of COOL tank badges??? The new stuff has "A STICK ON NAME BADGE!" WTF?! I went to my local dealer a month ago. Ill admit the yearning for a new bike was not there. The new ones did not do it for me. The Thunderbird was nice but the tank and block look like S$%T (rhyms with kit). Ok off my soap box Had to vent it out for once. Sooo ILL BE KEEPING MY 05 FOREVER!

It's just marketing. You know why they're trying it? Because it works! That said, I don't know how Harley stays afloat with that kind of strategy. Maybe people don't "trade up" as much as we assume. But if it gets people into the showrooms and keeps the company strong, I don't have a problem with it.

If they would give me full value on my '04, I would be happy to graduate and upgrade to a T-Bird or R-III

What does that actually mean? They will offer 100% of what KBB or NADA says the bike is worth as a trade in? That's not actually that much considering trade in-value is crap. Now if they would offer 100% of private sale figures that might be worth something.

I cant say what this means exactly but if I recall when HD did this with the sporty they gave you what you paid for the bike within a year if in excellent condition. It seems there was also a mileage limit but it was very liberal. But hey my memory these days is like a babys diaper
