Oiled plugs are not worthy of a second glance for plug color indexing!
When you index plugs they should be new. And checking them off idle is showing you the idle circuit only. A proper chop for the mains is to hammer it for 30 seconds, grab a hand full of clutch then kill the engine, coasting to a stop. Then take a gander.

However, with the advent of ethanol, the colors are no longer as meaningful. Wheras chocolate was sweet, now a hint of brown is in the area.

Yes you can reuse plugs for indexing. If ya can't afford the 5 bucks for a set of new ones. But you have to clean them up first.
