Don't believe it? You're lucky. "Cloning" is getting to be a major problem here in UK as the ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) cameras that have recently come into use over here were doing such a good job of catching untaxed or uninsured vehicles. Go past the camera - you get pulled up by the cops 1/2 mile up the road. Much easier to clone a plate so the computer doesn't pick you up. There are numerous cases of people getting speeding tickets when they were miles away from the alleged incident. One bloke in last week's MCN got off a speed ticket because he could produce evidence that the bike photographed by a speed camera, although the same make and model as his, had different mirrors and paint to the "original".
So just don't give some POS the chance....
