Hi Bruce,

I am doing the ride over 2 days each way and going by scenic rural back roads where possible. Basically zigzagging down the ranges - not a direct route. My route and stayover each way is not yet defined. This is what I'm thinking:
- take the best twisty riding roads.
- get the best scenery.
- avoid routes with high volume traffic, trucks and motorways where possible.
- only do about 400- 500kms per day so the ride is enjoyable all the way and doesn't just become an endurance ride.
- really enjoy the ride there and back.
- I will join up with Frank and crew for at least part of their ride if they'll have me (probably on the way back).
- The route I am thinking includes the legendary Lion Road over the Scenic Rim, and meanders in the mountains and valleys between the Pacific Highway and the New England Highway. A bit of each main route will probably be necessary once south of Grafton. But the roads linking the coast and the NE Hway are legendary down there anyway. The route will probably include some big zigzags there!
- Staffo is considering riding up to Brisbane and joining me for the trip down. I don't know what Benny's up to but he's welcome.
- Others are welcome to join us. (BTW - I am not a slow rider, slightly aggressive but not recklessly fast either. Anyone who want's to race or to dawdle is advised to form their own convoy. No offense meant - it's just safest and most comfortable for everyone that way.)
- I plan to depart north Brisbane on Thursday morning 4th August arrive Beuladella Friday avo 5th August. Depart Beuladella Sunday Morning 6th August and arrive Brisbane Monday avo 7th August.
- Because the route is not yet finalised I have not booked places to stay on the 4th and 7th but will look for something quiet, secure and rural (motel, lodge or B&B) about halfway each way when the route is sorted. Being a Thursday and Sunday nights, booking accommodation should not be a as hard as weekend nights.
- I will probably vary at least some of the return trip to different routes than the southbound route.
- Ideas on the best riding and scenic roads are welcome.
