You race forward into the adventure of life. You leave all the problems and stress behind you. There is a new view and a new day around every corner. Life is what happens as we make plans. Adventure is what happens when you get into the wind and twist it up with the only destination being HOLLY CRAP THIS IS FUN! That doesn't take a plan at all. Even dogs know to get their faces into the wind. I am sorry for folks who just don't get it.
Great clip!

I ride for a number of reasons , one of the main reasons is the way it makes me feel. I feel freedom and maybe a bit of a connection with the horseman of yesteryear. I'll try and explain some more with the words from a Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band song.
A little birdy sits on a fence dreaming of days ... of bags of maise when horses where all the rage
Now big trolley cars and automobiles have taken the place of the horse Oh ... You can't get a meal from an automobile That's what the bird sang to me ... twaa twaa twaa

I haven't aged well and I am only 64! When I ride it doesn't hurt as bad mentally or physically ! I don't go anywhere ,because wherever I end up, it was the ride that got me there. The BA makes me a better person !!!

Mostly, for the economy. I commute almost every day on the bike. But on the weekends, I ride to be with myself and my thoughts. Sometimes there are others, but they mostly ride Hardlys and only drag the sleds out for the show. Not that that's a bad thing, but those big bikes seem to suck the fun out of riding after awhile.
I mean, if your going out for a joy ride, which do ya drag out - the Caddy or the Bug Eye.

Wow, that made me smile. I'm just reading, for the first time, "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance". Given the amount of reading I do, I can't explain how I missed it all these years. That too does a nice job summing up why we ride and wrench.

I ride to work, so I can afford to ride...
I ride to think...
I ride to clear my mind... (yeah I know they are the opposite, but some days it's one, some the other)
But most days...
I ride cos I can.

I'll vote for that ^^^ driving a car you can be distracted by the radio or passengers but on the bike it's focus on the road and let the mind sort your troubles into some order of piority. Definately a form of meditation.

Of course there are many riders who listen to music too (headphones or speakers on HDs and such). But mostly we ride because it appeals to our inner selves, that part of us that yearns to be at one with ourselves and our surroundings. It really is a form of meditation for many.

I read that in college, over 20 years ago. I have an audiobook copy on my phone, waiting for the next bike trip...

I tried to find a you tube video that would explain it all for me, but couldn't find one that wouldn't violate the AUP. So I shall fall back to the answer that I have sewn on my jacket. "If I have to explain you wouldn't understand."
I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.
