I've been where you're at. In the hope of saving you both the circuitous route & the expense (that I had), I counsel you to get the "Staintune slashcuts." The price of them is a bit daunting, - but, by polishing your pennies a bit longer I believe you'll not regret it.
With their removable baffle system (meeting government noise standards while in & and sounding "but-bad" while out), the Staintune pipes are the best of both worlds.
